Think about it...

In the first 4 years of the Vietnam War a total of 401 Americans died.

now thats kind of misleading, the in the first real battle of vietnam that we were involved in we lost over 300 americans.

Direct American involvement began in 1955 with the arrival of the first advisors. The first combat troops arrived in 1965 and we fought the war until the cease-fire of January 1973.

The hostilities in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia claimed the lives of more than 58,000 Americans. Another 304,000 were wounded.

now that I looked into it I can see how its misleading. I copy/pasted that into my sig from a site that I *thought* was a reliable source.

i wasnt trying to bust your balls, and i dont really think war is the way to go, but im really into being correct history and i would rather people learn that history repeats itself and often what they are told about history isnt true.

here is a history fact that is repeating itself. remember that the The first official combat troops arrived in 1965

November 1, 1964

Two days before the U.S. presidential election, Vietcong mortars shell Bien Hoa Air Base near Saigon. Four Americans are killed, 76 wounded. Five B-57 bombers are destroyed, and 15 are damaged.

February 7, 1965

A U.S. helicopter base and advisory compound in the central highlands of South Vietnam is attacked by NLF commandos. Nine Americans are killed and more than 70 are wounded. President Johnson immediately orders U.S. Navy fighter-bombers to attack military targets just inside North Vietnam.

February 10, 1965

A Vietcong-placed bomb explodes in a hotel in Qui Nonh, killing 23 American servicemen

April 7, 1965

The U.S. offers North Vietnam economic aid in exchange for peace, but the offer is summarily rejected. Two weeks later, President Johnson raises America's combat strength in Vietnam to more than 60,000 troops. Allied forces from Korea and Australia are added as a sign of international support.

September - October 1965

After the North Vietnamese Army attacks a Special Forces camp at Plei Mei, the U.S. 1st Air Cavalry is deployed against enemy regiments that identified in the vicinity of the camp. The result is the battle of the Ia Drang. For 35 days, the division pursues and fights the 32d, 33d, and 66th North Vietnamese Regiments until the enemy, suffering heavy casualties, returns to bases in Cambodia.

this is the battle that is shown in we were soldiers

doesnt this sound a little familiar. now as an exercise for anyone that wants to know more, find out what these non combat air bases were doing in vietnam with us personel and equipment on them.

NATO - we (U.S.) signed a treaty to protect countries from the spread of Communism - just like in South Korea, West Germany, Western Europe, Afgansistan, Indochina, Central America, etc. Someone has to protect the world, noone else will.

Vietnam was going to fought no matter what the clueless protesters thought. We protected South Korea and where ready to die to protect West Germany/Western Europe. It's hypocritcal to only protect "white" people (like some other countries which will remain nameless)
