  1. I think this is what's happening with Google Voice. I happen to use it quite a bit myself and notice the same thing as you do.
  2. *spit take* I could hardly believe it... When I get some time, I'm going to call back and check the local calling area, get it on a recording.
  3. Now that we're approaching the 6-month anniversary of the last (known) electromechanical switch leaving the North American PSTN, I have some questions... - What now is the oldest switch type out there of actual phreaking interest? Are we going to be looking at 4Es now for anything "ancient" and interesting? - What is the status of CCITT5? Is it out there in enough abundance to be research-worthy? And is it only in foreign-reachable areas? Or do we have domestic access to reach those places? - Do we have any hope of doing anything anywhere the old-phashioned way these days? Or have we been relegated to the bin of historical times, and the only way we find anything now is completely moving into the 21st century? It seems to be a depressing time to me for phreaking "as it was"... Maybe I just need to be reminded that we are still relevant. Heh.
  4. If it's the 'new normal' conf, I've got the info... If not, I'll ping you guys tonight. Got roped into shopping and stuff last night, so I was unable to run my checks. I'll re-confirm my Verizon Wireless call during the course of today, then check the rest when I get home.
  5. Verizon Wireless. Dialed it on my cell phone, and actually got someone live. Heh. When I get home from work today, I'll try it from GV and my WOW! service, just to see if the results are different.
  6. I... Got an answer from this one. Heh.
  7. I want to say that's AT&T Wireless in some way, shape, or form... Sounds like a recording I've heard before.
  8. I can tell you for 100% certainty that you can use 10-10-288 (10-10-ATT) to dial and complete numbers on WOW!... But if you complete them, you will get blocked off of it after a time, as they'll look to bill and won't have an account on file for the number. Heh. Otherwise, it's largely a mixed bag; usually the larger players (AT&T, Sprint, MCI) won't be restricted as much, but that's not 100%. Even mid-tier (Global Crossing, etc.) are usually restricted. But I think because your VoIP providers are considered telecom, they're required by some older law / governance to have Feature Group D (10-10XXX) support... I could be wrong, but I believe that's why it's still possible.
  9. Some just deny dial pulse exists and do nothing (like my WOW! service)... Some (like TWC / Spectrum) still have the ability to translate dial pulse / hook-switch dialing. YMMV.
  10. I think someone's noticed us. Conf number now gets a CBCAD from the Portland switch.
  11. 1-800-401-9574 - Toll-free number has been disconnected message from 074-T (via WOW!) / 061-T (via Verizon Wireless) First time I've heard a message for a toll-free disconnect. The 074-T was consistent on WOW!, so I thought it might've been a message from the distant end, but... Obviously not.
  12. I believe we've come to the end. Sounds like Odessa finally cut over. And with the shuttering of the last 1AESS in the North American PSTN, there are (to the best of our knowledge and scanning) no remaining mechanical nor electromechanical switches left in the NANP.
  13. Info I have says it was removed from the network June 3rd, and due to be powered down on June 7th.
  14. Interesting to see a negative rep point on a post... Wish I knew why. Heh.

Just speak your mind and let the haters hate.  This is why I don't like likes. makes people worry too much about what other's "like" or don't like.

  15. NTS

Don't think so... Their "About Us" page says they started business in '87, which I think was a year after the Compliant COCOT tapes. Plus they're based in California. However, there is this one: https://www.ntscom.com/about-nts If their "over 35 years ago" assessment is accurate, that'd be '82 timeframe... Plus they're a southern-based company, which would lead me to believe that they could've penetrated the GA market easily. And there's this: http://www.ntscom.com/images/files/customerservices-060116.pdf Operator Services is the last thing mentioned.
  16. Honestly I'm the same way, but I feel like a good software scanner can be a useful tool to narrow a search. If you have a program that captures call progress and a snippet of audio, you can always note interesting things, and go back to them later. A fine example (and one I'm hoping to find software for) is getting all the interesting things out of the remaining 1A switches. Time is of the essence, so I need to be able to scan faster than I could hand-scanning... So I can spend the time hand-scanning the interesting stuff before it goes away forever.
  17. So in conversation with TP on the conf (sorry about cutting out so quick; baby business), we determined that Augusta (Fleming East) is indeed still a 1A. That gives me high confidence that Lafayette (Main) is still as well, as they have matching intercept recordings and clicks. Along with Odessa (Lincoln), this leaves 3 1As in the modern PSTN. My money's on Odessa either being the next to cut-over, or being the Last Of The Mohicans.
  18. So just some quick dialling around on the cell phone going off of the list on Page 3, looking at the switches with no info or 2017 shut-offs: Warner-Robbins and Shreveport (South Highland) seem gone (recordings sound very digital). Odessa I suspect is still around, as noted above. Atlanta (Adamsville) seems gone. I suspect Augusta (Fleming East) is still around because it sounds like it clicks into the recording (706-560-9901 for example). There's also a short MW-to-silent term on 706-793-2298. Lagrange seems gone. EDIT BELOW THIS! Savannah (Derenne) seems gone. I suspect Lafayette Main is still around, as intercept answers the same way as Augusta (337-236-9999). However, I want to say that ThoughtPhreaker mentioned Lafayette had cut over... If this is the case, then Augusta is out too because both switches sound the same. Grand Rapids (Bell) seems... Like an enigma. Sandman CO search lists it as a 1A, but AT&T's 2005 Test Line Directory for Area Code 616 (https://primeaccess.att.com//commonfiles/amer/1897/IM-616.pdf) doesn't even show a 616-770 switch? Could it have been a 1A tandem? As it is, it seems to not be there as a 1A as reachable recordings (616-770-0000/9999) don't click. Laude (Florissant) seems gone. So without backing through the main list more (maybe checking Q4 2016 switches for holdovers), we have either 0, 1, or 3 1As left in the PSTN. I'm firmly convinced Odessa is still a 1A, but I could use confirmation.
  19. I want to say Odessa is still holding strong. Calling 432-333-8181 gives a NIS recording that repeats twice (and sounds interesting on the end of each repetition), but seems to very noticeably click into the busy or reorder (?!) that follows.
  20. Was peeking at the old Test Line forum, and found that this one's still an odd thing: (501) 374-0453 757-484-9987 sounds like a broken echo test? 978-772-9404 is the same, but someone mentioned it was an ISDN test line?
  21. For what it's worth, 0 + 710-867-5309 dialed from whatever VoIP switch WOW! uses gives reorder with no error message. 1 + 710-867-5309 gives the dial tone 'prompt' (which I believe is the PIN prompt). After 10 seconds, it drops to an error message: "We are unable to complete your call because operator assistance is not permitted for this call" 0 + 710-NCS-GETS also gives reorder. 1 + 710-NCS-GETS also gives the dial tone 'prompt'. After 10 seconds, it goes to the operator.
  22. Posting here as this is related to scanning / janning / wardialling. Thinking about repurposing an old Asus EEE PC netbook for some flavor of Linux, to install iWar / WarVOX for autojanning via VoIP (IAX2 is allegedly supported on both programs). Has anyone used either program, or know anything about them? Wanting call progress detection and logging, simple interface, ability to set NPA-NXX-YYYY parameters and control randomness and timing of calls. Thanks!
  23. "Doorbell? ... Doorbell... ... Doorbell? ... Doorbell..."
  24. Yup! Still going strong. I might be on myself at some point this weekend... I have some things to bounce off people and such.
  25. I believe that the Warner Robbins 1A is no longer there. Happened within the last few days, it seems. Someone I talked to on Twitter had recently found a sweeping frequency test on 478-923-3131, but now that's an NIS.
