They link to mtv which is a closed source application which kinda sucks besides. Not really worth paying for the full version. One of my friends and an ex loki guy wrote gtv which is a small mpeg player that comes with smpeg the sdl mpeg library which is now hosted over at http://www.icculus.org along with all the other old loki projects (loki_update, loki_install, loki setup tools, maybe others I forgotten). Also included is an opengl mpeg player glmpeg or something, its been a while since I have used it!
As for other (more full featured) video players for linux, there are a ton of new ones. Mplayer is popular although I personally dislike the maintainers and the way the whole project is designed. Xine works quite well and is designed a bit better than mplayer. For the future though I hope projects based on http://www.gstreamer.net/ framework come into their own as the design of the playback framework allows for handling of many kinds of media using plugins instead of compiling it all into the player and having to recompile the whole thing every time one thing is changed. It also uses more standard libraries for most of the playback instead of using hacked windows dlls which is kinda asstastic if you ask me.

Anything GPL is better then anything closed source, if only for its hack value... and they are usualy much more suported and have a larger user base.
