XBox Modding questions

21 posts in this topic

I have a few questions about hacking the Xbox.

1) If I install Linux on it, can I still play Xbox games?

2) Will FluxBox work on Ed's Debian, an Xbox Linux distro? Because that would 0wn, big time.

The XBOXes that I've seen come with an 8GB HD. They'll take up to somewhere aroudn 274GB now with LBA48 support. Just get a cheap 200GB and you're set.

Yes,

you can use linux and still play games. I modded my xbox, I got an x2 chip and a 120 gig hdd (that fits about 30-50 games). I'm not sure what linux you want, but if you do want linux you need a chip with usb support for a keyboard. And uh, download "slayers auto installer" and it has gentoo linux ready to install along with many other apps and options for new hard drives and flashing chips. Find everything at xbox-scene.com

PEACE

If your going to put linux on your xbox, I suggest investing in some usb to xbox adapters for the keyboard and mouse. You can get 'em at lik-sang.com. sorry I'm to lazy to pull up a link.

I use gentoo on my xbox with it still able to play games I use the xenium mod chip. Don't be intimidated by mod chip installing on an xbox . It is about the easiest thing ever.

I also made my own usb adapter takeing a usb hub and striping the wires on it and a controller extenstion . If you look at the wires they are the same color exept I think the xbox has one extra yellow wire. The xbox controller is actually a usb hub. Before I got my modchip I soldered a usb plug to my xbox memory card to install the font exploit.

Running your xbox with a modchip is much better IMO but running the exploit isn't bad either if you want to be cheap. Read all you can on www.xbox-scene.com before you start anything to save yourself alot of headache. If you got any other questions you can go ahead and ask me I will help all I can.

now the thing about mod chips is, they are easy if you can soldier heh if you cant or are pritty bad at it i suggest get a cupple circut boards and a bunch of parts (resistore, transistors, diodes, switches, capitors, and all thoes good things) and get online schematics and build things when you become pritty good at it (you know 1 or 2 projects later, heh) tackle the xbox head on. im not saying you should do this but this is how i got my practice and it got pritty easy once you get confedent

is it me, or did Microsoft actually see where the future of gaming is going, hacking from your Xbox. You know if you said that five years ago people would have laughed at you, technology....

xbox modchips do not need to be soldered . You most come with a pogo pin adapter that just screws into place then you slider the board on it. It is easy and not as riscky as some people say. My friend has his I in stalled with the pogo pins and he drives around with it in his car . It works fine and never needed to be reset. I was going to solder install mine and had all my tools out when the chip arived but when I saw how quick and simple it was to install without solder I said screw it and just put it in and never looked back.
