Massive Power Surge Kills HBX Shell Server

13 posts in this topic

In an incredible stroke of bad luck (karma?) a power surge destroyed several computers belonging to HBX Networks last friday, effectively ending the "Free Shell Project".

Hairball: This time pick a 'better' host name for the server, just in case it comes to pass again.. ;) And welcome to the forum.

And for the record, I was not laughing at the death of the server I was laughing at the ironic circumstances surrounding the host name and how it died... you have to admit that is funny.

How about ‘tree’, to have the project grow?

;)

....You could have avoided the loss of thousands of dolars in equipment, and months of work for......a $10 Surge Protector. Or better yet, a $100 UPS

I'm kind of sad the war dials died :(

and i'm confused on what this whole project is, is it for people to fuck around with *nix or to REALLY hack other boxes?

no, in fact, a $10 surge protector can't protect against anything on the order of magnitude of a lightning strike.
