I called a random number in the 201 area code, and I got a not in service recording which dropped to a tandem recording with a male voice and a recording ID of 6T201, an ID I've never heard of before, anyone have any idea where this tandem is?

I was able to get a tandem ID of 5T908 calling an EWSD in Freehold. In this case, I think it's the Verizon intra-LATA tandem in Elizabeth, NJ . I'll play around a bit and see if I can get the 6T201 recording.

Can we translate these to the old Bell System tandem code format? If so then 6T201 would be Newark-Essex #2.

But probably not today...
