Hurricane Electric, OpenBSD, and Dynamic IPs

1 post in this topic

I've recently rebuilt my home router to basically a plain install of OpenBSD instead of pfSense (writeup on the router coming!). I still have to use Hurricane Electric for an IPv6 tunnel since it seems my ISP still doesn't provide native IPv6. Oh well! Anyway, OpenBSD has no built-in mechanism for keeping either the HE.net service up-to-date or the local gif tunnel. I wrote a little shell script to take care of it:

Requires curl, but otherwise only uses base stuff. More of a quick n dirty solution. I'll probably write something in Perl that doesn't hit the HE.net servers unless there's actually an IP change. Also, lattera pointed out that the HE.net tunnel password would be visible in the system process list while curl was running. Unlikely to matter in my case, but probably not so great!
