Dsl phone line

5 posts in this topic

So I had a AT&T tech come over and install a dsl line into my house. I bought a dsl filter but when I place a call it says (sorry the number cannot be completed as dialed. For directory assistance please dial 411 or a local directory number) which is weird because I cannot call any number without that happening.

Anybody know why?

That's a little strange. It sounds like the standard Bellsouth announcement text, so your switch is definitely hearing you. Since that seems to be mutual, it wouldn't be a problem with the DSL filter. Maybe there's a problem with the dialplan for some reason? Here's a bunch of things which should work regardless of what format your local numbers are:

*67/*82

950-1022

1-800-321-0288

101-0333-0

1-201-700-4141

101-0333-011-800-0000-0164 (don't worry, +800 is free. Make sure you only dial that country code, though; casual dialing real international is $$$++)

101-0555#

Yeah don't doubt it where I live bellsouth still pretty much runs the place and AT&T is just kinda their. No numbers worked. I'm assuming they set up wifi only.

Maybe 611 then? It could be someone still has your line set as suspended in the switch. That's the one thing - part from 911, they'll still let you dial if that's the case.
