Exactly. And meeting people that have extra computers lying around but want work done on some of their other computers. So instead of taking money, I trade my work for equipment. :D

i bought my main desktop out of ebay sells, out of a shitload of very small individual ebay sells. the other 2 : i found one outside of a neighbor's house, the other one i traded a broken mobo for a good one and scrounged the other parts from around dumpsters.

i just bought 2 333mhz towers at goodwill the otherday. I paid $20 a piece for them. One worked the other one just needed a new hard drive. And i've bought about 7 monitors from goodwill also, you usally can find them for $10 a piece :D

1x- Sun Fire 15k running solaris 9 (for email)

1x- 16x cray x1 cluster (for surfing, see also: calculating the value of pi accurately to 10e3050 decimal places)

1x- 486dx 25mhz running DOS 3.1 (for playing ultimas 1-6, zork 1-3) (not actually networked)

1x- 486dx 66mhz running DRdos (for playing ultimas 7-8, raptor, doom, and wolfenstein) (can be networked but isnt right now)

1x P4 2.6ghz dual booting windows 2000 / Hat 9. (For tinkering with windoze and fullfilling my gaming urges, as well as futzing with the HAT)

Hopefull new additions:

12 inch powerbook... oh me oh my how I loves the macintoshes

Some crappy pentium-1 box to run an IRC fserve on.

1965 vespa GS160 motorscooter. I want to install gentoo on it.

Well when I can find somewhere cheap to buy rackmount cases and mobos.. then I will be converting all my junk over to a closet format.

man, I can't even describe what is on the network at any given time, it's called the "Heidenburg principle of computer labs". the only semi-stable boxes are my slack 9.1 box (duron 850 w000000), and my mother and sister's windoze boxxxes. I also own a 1.3 ghz/ddr machine that is out of commission for some reason, 3(ish) PIIs, a sparc classic, and 9 or so 486/P1s in various states of disrepair. I might sell the olde sparcserver soon.... i don't know it's root password, and I would have to replace some ROM chip in it to install a new OS.... anyone want a total obsol337 box?

I will say thanks for finding that box for me. It was quite an ordeal to get delievered since I didnt have a loading doc for the 18 wheeler. hehehe....
