Ultra fast boot

1 post in this topic

Recently I abandoned my triple booting project and decided to go with Ubuntu Linux only, no win7 and osx alongside. So in trying to optimize my Ubuntu, I wanted to make it boot up extremely fast. Of course, I know there are some limitations such as having HDD vs SSD. I'm not willing to upgrade hardware at this time.

So I followed a couple guides (Linked below) to build my own kernel. I tried this twice, but I'm still getting about a 40 second-ish boot time which is slower than the default install. I used the 3.2.2 Kernel source to build it and customized it based on the settings he suggested in the article.

It didn't work though. Anyone else know of a better resource, or a better way/alternate way to make my system boot super quick?
