I picked up a copy of this magazine at a local Borders.

I picked a copy up at a Borders here too, sitting right next to 2600. I was quite suprised to see another hacking 'zine at Borders.......

to go early in this thread, referring to Ironhorse....

someone please explain why their latest issue has

* FREE KEVIN infos

???? isn't he free?...anyhow

as far as "offical Hackers magazine" I imagine it's a marketing ploy aimed to get increase sales to AOL'rs (ie. people without a clue) by making it an "exotic" item to be seen with

Billy2838328: wow it says offical hacker magazine, I downloaded the latest aol punter, I R am Hax0r!!! must own....

or some such....aside from that it's a decent mag, sometimes....with that said, it still irritates me when people try to label anything in a decentralised underground culture as official...it's sort of an oxymoron if you ask me...*shrug*

Haha - well to the person who said they'd smack the person who paid for a copy - well I guess you can try to smack me four times because I paid for a subscription. They were handing out free copies at Defcon - so I picked one up. I thought it was rather interesting, not to mention, the owner of their magazine talked with me for a while and seemed like quite a nice guy and was into the stuff that I was into, etc. I am most likely going to subscribe to BinRev, 2600 (I pick that up at barnes and noble), and Infiltration because I really do like to learn about everything I can in the underground and Blacklisted!411 showed a perspective I hadn't seen in 2600 (which is the only other hacker magazine I have read).

So there you have my story.

In my opinion 2600 sucks. I have just started to get interested in computers and found a copy of it at the local boarders. After reading it I decided to drop them a line and ask some questions. Come to find out that the info they print is not only not beginner friendly, but simply not correct at times. Right before leaving for defcon I noticed a new mag next to 2600 and took a look. It was blacklisted 411. Seems to me that they are beginner friendly and the information is correct. there question/answer section is longer and goes into detail so even I can understand and follow with ease. While at hope I picked up some issues of BinRev. The mag seems to be along the same lines with beginner information and articles well thought out(although it needs a good proof reader) however, it seems stankdawg is either too busy or does not get my emails, which is the reason I have yet to sign up for a subscription. Being 28 and trying to get into hacking is something I find to be difficult. I have gone to the local 2600 meeting but the people there all have laptops and are doing there own thing. Actually some are just there surfing porn so there is little to glean from going. I have yet to give up looking for the hacking information and people in the know. At defcon I subscribed to blacklisted 411 mag. I also tried to make contact with people but it seems that hackers no longer have the 'hacker' mindset of sharing info with others. Talking to people was similar to talking to the wall. I thought that hackers were open-minded, open-spirited, and generally easy going people.

Thanks,

Jera

Jera, sorry if I havent gotten back to you in email. I really dont remember seeing them, perhaps teh spam blocker got them. :( Anyway, we do not offer subscriptions to BR magazine yet. We are still too small and workign out of our houses and we are not able to offer subscriptions at this time.

Believe me, I wish we could. It would be easier on me.

Didn't you hear? Kevin Mitnick got arrested again. Russel Wong caught him attempting to release a supervirus and he's going to prison.

(adden.) I think the free kevin thing is going to continue for as long as there are stickers to sell, but i have little faith in peoples intentions.

Three issues of this magazine was at Border's and I was really surprised to find it there. I took the time to peruse through it. But my local Border's never has 2600! What's up with that? I'd like the chance to browse an issue.
