Hi

I have a DELL Laptop that needs a password (Not known) to enter the operating system (Windows Vista) how do i get around this? Would i need to change the hard drive and install a new OS with a new license, is that an option? or is there a 3rd party app that could hack this?

Yes, you can wipe the drive and install a fresh copy of Windows, or Linux (free); however, you will lose all of your data. You can recover that data by booting from a Linux CD. Ubuntu Live CD or knoppix will work well for this. Once you boot up, you will be able to access the NTFS formatted hard drive and copy the files you need to a USB drive.

If you bought the PC used, I wouldn't use the same OEM (Microsoft Product ID) or the same MAC Address. You don't know if the guy before you was some kiddie porn collector or something. I would suggest removing the partitions, formatting the drive, encrypting the entire drive, and installing a fresh Operating System after that.

If it was always your PC, and you just forgot your 35 digit password with lowercase, uppercase, numbers and special characters. I haven't used it, but I hear Kon-Boot works well to strip the passwords.

I have used OPHCrack in the past, but it isn't reliable enough for me. The one that works 100% for me is Offline NT Password Cracker. Offline NT Cracker can make any account passwords blank. Just be careful with it, but don't be scared to use it either.

musicmad,

Consider this, you lose/misplace an item you are fond of.

Someone finds it and without trying to locate the person who truly owns it they decide it's now theirs.

It could happen to you.

I encourage you to locate the owner of the laptop as next time it might be you who is missing something

and wouldn't you be very happy to have the missing item returned?

Truth is i found the Laptop and intend keeping it but can't access the system without the password. In this case whats the best tool to use to hack the password?

After seeing your post #4, I withdrawal my advice.

After reading your comment #4 I also got really annoyed. I agree with Berzerk on this. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems you don't know the difference between petty theft and hacking.

Here is what I consider the difference:

HACKING -

  1. Taking a computer, and figuring out a way to bypass the password.
  2. Disseminating the contents of the drive to find the owner's name, address, and pictures of them to identify them.
  3. Being nice and installing programs to help them find their PC if they lose it again.
    • VNC - (to view the system)
    • An SSH server - (to help retrieve their files)
    • An IP beacon - (To say when the PC is online and what the IP address is)

[*]Returning the laptop to the owner.

[*]Occasionally checking in on the PC to make sure the system is ok, and they didn't lose it again. (What a good citizen!!!)

PETTY THEFT -

  • Not using google to find a simple kiddie script.
  • Being an idiot and telling everyone you are committing a crime.

You have a non OEM license recovery disk? You can reset it.

There is a reply button in the PMs.

Im a bit lost in the other posts. If this is a stole or found computer you should return it. Never know if it was a students whos term paper that decided their life was on it without a back up elsewhere.

Just in case.

3. DEFINITION OF "HACKING"

Hacking is about production, not destruction; it involves curiosity, research, analysis, knowledge, the creation of new ideas, the discovery of amazing breakthroughs, and the sharing of information with those who will use it responsibly. Hacking is not illegal activity. The Digital Dawg Pound and the Binary Revolution Forums will not take any responsibility for your actions, nor do we condone any sort of illegal activity, especially in the name of hacking.

Hi

I have a DELL Laptop that needs a password (Not known) to enter the operating system (Windows Vista) how do i get around this? Would i need to change the hard drive and install a new OS with a new license, is that an option? or is there a 3rd party app that could hack this?

This tutorial is about how to reset Dell password without losing any data. Usually, when we realize losing laptop

password, the best way is using password reset disk if you have created it before.

The MOST efficient way if you don't have a password reset disk, try to find Windows Password Key to reset your account

password to blank without knowing the current password

OK, I am locking this thread now for two reasons:

1) The question, albeit shady, was answered very well by multiple people.

2) The last 2 responses, while on-topic and not against the rules in my opinion, appear to basically be SPAM to paid password cracking software (Which a dirty thief probably would not be willing to pay for anyway).

So thread locked. Thanks to all for the valid replies. They are appreciated especially when outright flaming would have been easy. I like to see people take the high road.
