Interesting question.

Part of what you'd need to look at is who will need access to it later on? As in, is it only yourself or will others be allowed to have access and look at it. Some encryption involves having a key, one key or both a public and private key, depending on your needs.

Personally, i wouldn 't recommend using these since they've been cracked (as of 2008) :
DES, RC2, and RC4.

I would suggest using a Truecrypt file container of 4.5gb for each disk with the Serpant/Twofish/AES encryption algorithm and the Whirlpool hash algorithm. Choose a very random password and keyfiles. Keyfiles are files that have to be present at the time of encryption and decryption that act as keys to unlock the files. I highly suggest keyfiles because even if someone could arrest both parties and get the password somehow, they would need to know which keyfiles were used, which would be even more impossible than guessing the password. With a complex password alone and using the algorithms posted, even the US government would not be able to crack the encryption.

An example of a good password:

I don't think there will be any experienced hackers after the data. But, still if the DVD goes into wrong hands... The people on the other end should not have to waste much time decripting the files...

Truecrypt is really fast. The files will be decrypted in a matter of seconds.

You're correct.

I know because I've used truecrypt btw, so I have some experience with it.

I was thinking of mentioning truecrypt myself.
