Building wireless IDS systems using open source

6 posts in this topic

Hello all,

I've just released a new paper called, "Building wireless IDS systems using open source". The idea is to detect network level attacks

using software like Snort, and layer 2 (wireless level) attacks using Kismet. Sagan brings it all together. Please check it out

and let me know what you think. That article is at:

http://sagan.softwink.com/papers/wireless-ids

Thanks!

That is really cool, and I think I'll be setting it up using your write-up as reference. I just happen to have a few of those Engenius cards and a Linux box sitting, collecting dust. +1

That's a really good writeup. I was wondering how that was stuff was done, and you've gone far and beyond to answer questions I hadn't even thought of yet.

Good work.

Great job on the tutorial. I'd love to see the same thing, but with pfSense.

Nice Job, Was tinkering with the idea of building something along the same lines but activating the 2nd card when a NEW/UNKNOWN wifi device became present in the target area since the device is stationary can easily go against a known/unknown match table (I know kismet is passive) kinda leaves a hole in that idea.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I'm not a pfSense user, so I doubt I'll be doing that write up any time soon :)
