LILO

How do I get rid of LILO from the MBR? It's annoying cuz if I don't pick dos in ten seconds it tries to boot into Linux which is no longer there <_<

i'd just fire up dos, then do a fdisk /mbr. i don't know if it will work or not, but it's worth a shot.

Edit: I just noticed that you use Linux, not Windows. Don't mind this post.

Edit 02: you could probably use the Recovery Console CD in DOS, since it is a console... You just need the ability to boot from CD though, so change your BIOS.

If you are using Windows XP, the Recovery Console CD should have a tool that will work. Load it up (boot from the CD) and let it load. When asked, press "r" for the console. Type "fixmbr" and press "y" to confirm. (It will erase all of your MBR, so be careful). It should boot normally after that.

The recovery console CD will either come with your Windows XP CD, or with your computer (if purchased). if not, contact me and I'll send you an image of the CD (7mb).

Hope I helped.

fixmbr sounds exactly like fdisk /mbr. it seems they do the same thing, erase the mbr.

I WISH they erased the MBR. That would make for a really really really quick way to disable someone's computer.
