(914)737-9938

Call it a few times if you get a ring to reorder. Its a little broken, but usually every 4th time calling, you get the recording.

lol that is pretty funny

*edit*

on that test number page... "800-455-1474" ... prompt 1... emergency trace.. pretty cool... but you gotta be with security to issue a trace...

QUOTE (Betty Cracker @ Feb 29 2004, 08:03 PM)

When I was local to this number I found it in a scan. when I would dial it as you dial a local number in your npa (no area code) it says "It is necessary to for you to dial the area code plus 7 digit phone number when dialing this call. Please hang up and try your call again." Well that was weird. So I then called it with the area code first. Then I get the "We're sorry, it is not necessary to dial a 1 or 0 when calling this number. Will you please hang up and try your call again."

umm... ooook

the number is 608.676.9990

Not really mind blowing but still... wtf?

Simple explanation: ten digit local dialing. When someone just dials seven digits, they get a recording instructing them to dial the area code. If they dial one plus the area code, then they get a recording telling them not to dial the 1.

Fairly obviously simple, actually

Ok, I was thinking that may be the situation but when I dial it as a 10 digit number I still get the "It is necessary to for you to dial the area code plus 7 digit phone number when dialing this call. Please hang up and try your call again."

But whatever, its stupid. heh. I don't even know why I mentioned it

888-847-6288 Verizon National Market Center (aka VNMC / NMC)

It's not as boring as it sounds. Just give it a ringy dingy and check it out.

They may not allow you to access it by cell, I can't on my VZ cell phone.

4 quick beeps, then just a humming sound, then a busy signal or reorder, then some more hum, then it disconnects. Nearest numbers are all disconnected.

This is on a GTD5 by the way.

The first one sounds like it _might_ be a COCOT, but the second one doesn't sound the least bit British. :)

1-813-753-6545 Thats a fax number. When you need to trace a call with T-mobile

Your supposed to call local police and have them fax that number requesting the call logs.I'm sure they don't have every police stations' fax numbers on hand to verify where your faxing from.My girl needed to trace a number a while back and the coppers don't do shit.So my girl got the sergents badge number to file a complaint. So I'm thinking........I will give it a try this weekend and post my findings.Pm me for the extra info.

"The Extension you have dialed is not assigned in the switch..."

PBX? Centrex?

215-504-5793

This is a TV audio feed for some station in Pennsylvania. It only seems to play audio during certain times of the day, though, such as during their newscasts. I think this may be used by them for reporters in the field to monitor audio for special broadcasts.

205-957-0816

This is the weird one. I've had this number for a couple months and whenever I would call it played "Please hold while we complete your call", followed by a "your call cannot be completed as dialed" loop. It still answers that way, however, when I called twice tonight, I heard someone physically pick up on the line and hangup, disconnecting me! Anyone notice the weird clicking noises it makes? It sounds like it could be an old switch being used for private or business use as a PBX. Having someone hang up on me during an error message sure puzzled me tonight.

You're right. I am 99% positive it is ringing through to Japan. PayphoneEd made a recording of a Japanese Telephone Ring and they sounded strangely similar. :ninja:
