Linux Proxy Checker and Manager

6 posts in this topic

Hey all,

I'm looking for a program (gui preferred) for Linux that will check proxies to see if they're valid. It would be extra cool if it could automatically manage them and chain them together. I know there are a number of programs for this on Windows. I've googled around but come up mainly empty.

thanks in advance,

This is not what you're asking for, but have you checked out Tor?

Yeah, and I'm an avid user of it. There's just some things I can sacrifice anonymity on but still don't necessarily want tracked, like my RSS feeds. Also, I try to offload bandwidth from Tor so that I don't hog the network. For things like my RSS feeds, a simple http proxy would suffice.

I wouldn't worry about hogging bandwidth. With the amount of people using it for bittorrent, it's more or less already ruined for everyone else.

Why don't you learn a programming language and write one yourself? HTTP and SOCKS are very simple protocols. Gogogo!

I wouldn't say HTTP is all that simple. There's parsing involved, and the protocol itself has a lot of options. SOCKS, on the other hand, is trivial.
