adding bigger dictionary to backtrack 3

5 posts in this topic

Hello,

Can someone please give me the commmands to add a dictionary to the root folder on backtrack 3.

I have a usb 128 mb pendrive and the file name is wordlist.txt

There is nothing else on this usb pendrive.

I have been trying this command but it will not work cp /mnt/sbd1/wordlist.txt /root

Thanks,

Dane

Are you just trying to get to the wordlist or do you want it permanently on the Backtrak media? What error is the cp command returning?

Is the volume with the dictionary mounted?

#>mount -t <file system> /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb

To ensure Linux is recognizing your USB drive look at syslogs or use lsusb.

Do you have permissions to /root ?

Yes, he has. :D

There is no other account on a standart-Backtrack.

I would try

cp /mnt/sbd1/wordlist.txt /root/wordlist.txt

if the usb device is mounted in /mnt/sbd/.

I do not use BackTrak much, but isn't it possible to add other users and su to them?

All this recent backtrack talk has got me playing with it yesterday. Yea, the default user for backtrack is root. It could be that the root directory is read-only as its on a CD. Not sure if it copies it to ram first. You could always keep the dictionary on the pen drive and just use it from there. If you're still having the problem then post the error message(s) you're getting.
