VoIP Billing Glitch

By pure chance I notice that by setting the mic source on my softphone (Ekiga) to 'silence' seems to confuse my VoIP provider's billing system. The call still connectes, and I can use DTMF (out-of-band) to control an IVR, but the call is free.

I wonder whether this is a wide spread 'feature'....
