18 posts in this topic

We all suffer from it but i wanna know what to do. There are so many topics in hacking like phreaking wireless shit all that. But i want to have 1 general focus b.c i get sidetracked easy. I dont really need "basics" ive done that i just need a main focus. My interest is Remote hacking. Just a little steering would be nice.

Thanks yall

Well my general interest is remote hacking.. But with the lack of a laptop ( "you cant get one till senior year" blah blah) lol. Its kinda hard i wouldnt say wirelss stuff but more in depth would be exploiting unpatched systems and finding vulnerabilities in networks ( searching for that 1 ignored computer). Things like that.

focus on port scanners. Find a good one. Set a goal what do you want to do. How are you going to do it. From where. Hopefully this helps

Well if your gonna be exploiting networks there definetly has to be a focus on invisibility to the server to protect yourself and the other users. Also it depends on what you want off of the server itself. Files, just browsing, usernames, or if you are going to do something seriously 31337 even implement an untraceable key stroke logger. If you have steal this computer book then i would recomend checking out the url for the keystroke logger that is mentioned in the book it works pretty well. If you dont have the book, buy it. :ninja:

If you suffer from a lack of attention span then maybe some of the videos out there teaching hacking techniques would work better. I can't think of specific ones off hand but I seem to recall irongeek having some nice vids on his website (irongeek.com) and if you search google video and other places you can learn stuff. CBT Nuggets puts up free videos every so often that can be useful.

Other than that, I'm honestly kind of confused about wtf is going on in this thread.

Ritaline. Seriously. It does work very well :)

Just sit down and force yourself to read, read, and read some more. I have a short attention span and get bored easily, but just force myself to read to do stuff. There are a lot of things you can learn by doing them and just looking at documentation once you have the basics and that's all well and good because it makes it easier to hold my attention, but to really learn something inside and out you just need to read and experiment.

I have never had Ritaline or whatever the UK alternative is... is it really that effective? I heard you can concentrate like crazy and absorb a lot more information with correct usage. Anyone had first hand experience with it?

I would also agree that videos do seem to be an easier way of learning especially for those who have trouble concentrating. My mother is a special needs teacher and she claims that colour in text can also help matters when having to study. I am attempting to learn python and have found that colour code keeps my eye firmly on the page.

Good luck.

I've recently gone through the process of being diagnosed for ADD, and then started taking Ritaline. It really helps me concentrate better and for a larger period of time on my work, which makes it far easier for me to do all my homework. I used to have lots of trouble getting concentrated on my homework, may it be for taking very long to get in the mood and then would get very easily distracted and had to start getting my concentration again. But ADD is not all about doing homework, it also has an impact on other things. For instance, sometimes someone could speak directly to me, I knew it was important and that I should pay attention, but still, I wouldn't be able to concentrate on what the person said and missed most of it (does that sound familiar to some of you?). I was also known for being lost (like you don't understand what is happening around you) by my friends. As it may sometimes be a problem to concentrate on someone speaking directly to you, imagine how it is when people are NOT speaking directly to you. When people did not speak directly to me I would really have not a good idea of what people would say/do around me, so my friends would often tease my by talking about me just to see me wake up and ask them what they said about me. Of course, this happens to ordinary people, but it is amplified with ADD. I don't say it doesn't happen again, it just happens a lot less than it used to. Maybe you never thought of that, but if you have a girlfriend, she'll be happy: you'll be able to concentrate more on what she says, and remember more. Of course men often forget what their girlfriend says, but how can you remember something you never understood in the first place. As I can handle my load of work a lot better, I don't get annoyed when she interrupts my study time for a few minutes (which is very annoying for an ADD when it takes effort to get the concentration back, unless you were already totally bored and not concentrated). If you don't get annoyed, she's happy and you don't have any problems resulting from that.

See? that's what Ritaline does for me. I understand the concern of some people regarding ADD, saying it might be too easily diagnosed (or worst, it doesn't even exist). I used to think that way, it took me a lot of time to realize and accept I really had ADD, but now it is absolutely clear for me that ADD is real and that I have it. This makes a huge difference in my life, and for the good. If you think you have ADD consult your doctor and ask to pass a test, because the medecine is worth it if you are diagnosed positively.

smoke meth 24/7!

Meth is a stimulant, smoking it would probably make it much more difficult to concentrate. However a depressant like alcohol or weed might make it easier (up to a certain point). You'd get to the point where you are shitfaced drunk or slightly more than a little buzzed and you'll probably find it hard to concentrate and have poor memory retention.

Alcohol is certainly NOT helping you concentrate on your work, it is helping you relax.

They are? I would think stimulants would make it harder to concentrate due to making you more hyper.

Everybody's brain chemistry is different. Ritalin is indeed a stimulant, but it also has the effect of improving the concentration of some patients with ADD. The drug has been developed especially for that purpose and there are several alternatives to Ritalin which are also commonly prescribed for treating ADD. I know a few people with ADD who take Ritalin or other meds, and people have told me their medication does indeed help with concentration.

Besides the obvious fact that you're not a doctor, self-medication is never a good idea because the individual taking the medication is incapable of the necessary objectivity to make an accurate clinical diagnosis, treatment plan, and prognosis. This is especially true when it comes to a mental health issue like ADD. Even physicians who are well-educated in medicine and qualified to prescribe medication will usually go to other doctors for their own medical needs. Taking meth or cocaine is a very bad idea because those are drugs with serious abuse and addiction potential and believe me, the last thing you need is an addiction to an illegal substance. Meth especially causes some horrible damage to people.

I generally feel that adopting a "hacking' approach to your own health, mental or otherwise, is not necessarily a good idea. You ought to see a doctor or other specialist for these kinds of issues.
