Hugs for hackers?

36 posts in this topic

So sad what AVG has become. They used to be a great free anti-virus alternative to the big boys. Now, they seem to have gone corporate or something. Not only are they making it harder to find the free version (version 8 is not available for free) and selling it on store shelves, but now they start selling fear about hackers? I have been seeing ads in my trade magazines that are all about hwo terrible the evil hax0rs are and it makes me sick how they have clearly launched a campaign against hackers.

I am now officially boycotting AVG and uninstalling it right after this post. There are lots of other alternatives out there.

LOAD OF SHIT: http://www.hugsforhackers.org/ which is sponsored by AVG (http://www.grisoft.com)

Alternatives:

Avira - http://www.free-av.com/

Avast! - http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

ClamAV - http://www.clamav.org/download/ (or ClamWin - http://www.clamwin.com/ for windows)

Comodo - http://antivirus.comodo.com/

PC Tools AV - http://www.pctools.com/free-antivirus/

OMFG LMFAO

That's awesome! Not about AVG turning to the evil side but the website.

How to spot a hacker: " Does he list Public-Key Authentication as a major turn on? "

Spread the misinformation!

This is why I've switched over to Avast! under Windows in the last few years. I guess everything ends up going corporate anymore. At least the site is good for a few laughs.

I cannot even make any sense out of that site.

I guess I'm not progressive/next-gen/whatever enough.

Meh. I'll probably still use the free version as long as it's free, since I don't feel like switching them all out right now.

Errr.. is this not a parody site?

Hugs for hackers in rehab.

<Either I cannot spell or I am so unoriginal that I re-used a lame internet meme that has no value whatsoever to these forums and have been wordfiltered>.

I’m still getting epic lulz from my 1337 hack. I’ve got mad skillz, man! I loaded porn all over the courthouse MySpace page – it even made page H-10 of the Newton County Citizen-Banner-Herald! It was the best thing that happened to me since the Matrix came out on DVD.

wat...

I can't use Gnash, The bitches responsible for that have made it considerably more complex then it needs to be.. it's pretty much only Linux friendly these days.

I hate the Boost library so much...

Really? It works under OpenBSD for me =/ It took out ffx when it locked up a few times, but nothing serious.

I love the stereotypical outfits. I see a shortage in leather / pleather pants coming on. We all need to go buy skin tight shiny black leather dominatrix suits. Since when did we start carrying shotguns? Anyways.. this is retarded. I'm definitely not going to suggesting AVG anymore, this is just over the top.

"Dark stains of society." I'd prefer to keep being a stain, instead of being a belligerent stereotypical moron brainwashed by these dumbasses. This just pisses me off.

Bullshit.

And what is it about the hackers at the moment ?

I recall a bunch of hacker-themed storied on the local press lately.

Not even funny anymore, but all hackers are criminals and bad etc {Long list, insert thins as usual} according to journalists.

The pictures are straight out of the Cyberpunk Handbook, which is an amusing read if you haven't (though a bit dated by now):

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0679762302

What is there to know about being a cyberpunk? Leather jacket, mirrorshades [*cough*]-- that just about does it, right? This kind of patronizing shirt must farking DIE.*

*Since we can't afford to offend any parental units who might

*purchase this book for their family circle, all chancy verbs

*and nouns have been cleverly encyphered. This is in the

*spirit of true cyberpunkhood, see <<Encryption>>.

You think cyberpunk is just a leather jacket, some chrome studs, and fully reflective sunglasses? You think that's all there is? Hah! You can find those on Kansas City bikers and the whole California Highway Patrol. The true cyberpunk might tuck a *cellular-modem laptop* under a spiked leather arm, and a *laser pointer* in the upper zip pocket. Or, a true cyberpunk may look just like YOU. But sHe** who knows doesn't tell, and **hirm who tells doesn't know.

Okay, I am going to be disagreeing with you all, but I think you all need a better sense of humor. I mean, this isn't supposed to be serious.

The "hugs for hackers" is supposed to be funny, yes. But at our expense. More a problem than the ad campaign, is the direction of the product. go look at the AVG product site and forget about the H4H stuff. Tell me that they are using "OMG EVIL HAXORS" scare tactics now and then get back to me.

AVG Free is The Simpsons, and HugsForHackers is Fox News.

Did anyone else see H4H as HAH?

At first I thought, "Homophilia?" Now, I've tacked "bullshit" onto my mental perception of this campaign.

Wow...

And I liked AVG too -_-

Oh, well as long the stuff I have stays free I'm gonna keep it. But wow, who the hell thought of H4H?

Crash your servers man!

heh. I was visiting a friend of mine in federal lockup and he had heard about h4h from someone in the prison. I had to check it out for him. He was kinda hoping it was some sort of message board or something that he could write to.
