Freenet Sites?

10 posts in this topic

Hi all, I'm just now getting into Freenet:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freenet

Can anyone recommend some useful/interesting Freenet sites? Not sites about Freenet, but sites ON Freenet.

Which is about typical for "security expert" Gibson. You might as well check the free net FAQs and read one of the papers on darknets to learn about this kind of stuff, you'll end up knowing more.

I've got no darknet sweetness to share. :(

Freenet has it's own directory service that shows published sites. Like TOR there are "hidden" networks as well. From my own experience, there really isn't anything all that special and is more/less a haven for kiddie porn which is rather scummy.

I've looked at some of the index sites from the default Freenet homepage, but most did not look very comprehensive. So far, I've seen little of interest on Freenet, which is why I was wondering if there were some good Freenet sites.

I didn't know that freenet was still around...I remember using it many many MANY years ago. It was slow and turned into a CP haven (as jfalcon mentioned earlier) so I just stayed away from it altogether. I didn't even know that it still existed. :o

Freenet is quite unbearable. I remember using it several years back, leaving it running, only to come back several hours later to find that a website had only halfway loaded. It was useful to spread forbidden information, such as Scientology documents, but it's SO SLOW.

The FAQ mentions that it takes a while before you get better results. In terms of setting up a darknet of our own though, it could be interesting. Some grey-knowledge sharing, if any ;)

I'll check requirements at home, see what's needed. Would do me well to find something new to play with.

I have my node set up. I can share my node info anytime. I have it set to secure.
