Getting Access to a Laptop

4 posts in this topic

I have a 4 year old laptop that I'd like to get access to.

Let me give you the story:

It is a Dell Inspiron 4100 which runs Windows 2000. When my folks gave it to me a year ago, they hadn't used it in a while, and didn't have the password anymore. I'm wanting to start using it as a kind of data storage computer, but alas, no access.

I do not have the admins password or name, and the laptop itself does not have internet access. I know black-hatting isn't exactly what hackers like to do, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

try booting it in safe mode, or just reinstall the operating system, since its so old there probably isnt any info thats of any value on there anyways.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, as how computers function isn't exactly my strong suit, but what would I be able to do in Safe Mode?

Alright, new question:

How do I go about reinstalling the OS without access to the laptop?

Alright, new question:

ok well assuming you have an installation disk you can set your laptop to boot from the cd drive in the bios settings then load your disk in restart and install.

Alright, thank you very much for the help.
