Confused..

5 posts in this topic

I'm based in the uk, I was searching through a list of numbers when dialing some of them, I would get a dial tone straight after dialing them as if I haven't dialed anything? also it would then start to make a noise that was a higher pitched version of the usual dial tone? Some insite into what this is would be greatly appreiciated :D

Thank.

My first guess would be an extender. Does the "new" dial tone respond to DTMF? Have you tried dialing the numbers around the odd number to see if it's perhaps part of a business's consecutive numbering system?

You should research who the number belongs to and what type of equipment its behind. That might give a hint as to it's purpose.

Okay cheers, I tried to dial a new number on top of the new dialing tone I got but it didn't get me anywhere, the number seems to be owned by BT, I guess its just a free line, that hasn't got an assigned use.

What is the number? And where did you find it?
