ACCESS DENIED

22 posts in this topic

Okay so heres the problem I'm having, my roomate stays up til 5an playing a online game called EVE, its driving me crazy and he wont stop so heres our network set up

..........................................................(((((0)))))

................................................................|

................................................................|

TV jack}---[cable modem]-------{buffalo whr-g54s router}

...............................................\| ...................\|

.....(((My Laptop)))...................\|......................\| .........(((other roomates laptop)))

..............................................\| ......................\|

.......................................Dell Desktop/LAN........His laptop /LAN

Now his stupid so the router is unlocked, so heres what i need to get done, i need to block all his access to the game via the router, but only on the LAN, the Wifi needs to be left untouched so he will think its a problem with the game not the router, i just don't remember how to set the router up to were it will block EVE but not any other program, and remember this is my role responsiblity and no one is held accoutible for my actions;)

Most routers have an ability to block specific ports. I believe EVE operates through 26000. Just go into the routers admin menu, there should be an option to block the port. Or you could just tell him to wear headphones....

Don't know about your router.. but some have a 'time scheduler' that will let you deny internet access at various times... Make it cut out his port the same times you want to be sleeping. That should really piss him off. (Might want it to kill all ports at the same time, to keep suspicion off of you too... blame it on the ISP)

Why does it drive you nuts anyways? Because of the volume? Because he won't use headphones?

So he stays up till 5... The secret is to then make alot of noise at 7AM... vacuum the place, walk loudly around, talk with the other roomate outside his door (or someone on the phone), etc.

Do you mean he keeps the lights on and you sleep in the same room? Tell him straight up "Bud, I can't fall asleep with all these lights. It's fricking 4AM!!!!" Then do the 7AM routine :D

You could steal his bandwidth and turn on your torrent software... If it is on the same machine it would be even better. Just turn it on and log out. Then he cant play his game at all. You will also be getting something done in the process.

Do the smart thing.. stop using a commercial SOHO, build a nice BSD based router... and make it so all access originating from his computer is redirected to disturbing pornography sites during the night ;)

I'd try talking to him. This is a good opportunity to build some negotiation skills... I'm sure there's something you do he doesn't like that you can stop doing in exchange to make a deal.

okay this is the best way to block "his port" from disrupting your sleep

Step. 1 when your ready to go to bed go over to your computer and shut it down

Step. 2 tell him goodnight

Step. 3 walk over to your computer tower, pop open the casing

Step. 4 take out the paper towels and chloroform, walk up behind him, tell him goodnight one more time and put the chloroformed paper towel and cover "his ports" until there is no packets sending/receiving from "his ports"

Step. 5 repeat nightly until desired effects are achieved =)

good luck!

Well really he does have the right if he lives there with you and pulls his weight. But yeah i agree with just killing him, try to make it look like a suicide lol.

You've basically been told a solution in the first reply. The port for EVE has more than likely been manually forwarded to his computer. Perhaps it could also be uPnP in which case it's happening automatically. Turn off uPnP (if it's on) and disable the port forwarding for the game. Thing is it won't take much for him to log into the router and change the settings back. He'll probably enable the password too.

Another thing you could do is use an ettercap filter mangle all the packets from the router to his computer on that port but that'd be a little more work.

If you are upset because your boyfriend is neglecting you at night you should sit him down and have a heart to heart. Tell him he has to choose between you and his online games :P

AFAIK your router supports manual routes.

(Network Config -> Route Info)

So simply add a manual route to 87.237.38.200 (Source of the IP: EVE Support), which routes all packets assigned to this ip over...let's say 192.168.12.1.

That should bring you the result you want...

Next time hes online use a program like Cain to find out what IPs hes conecting to then go to the IP filter and add them. The game will never work. Or if your router suports it like mine does you can set up restrictions to block the IP at a specific time at night then turn it back on later.

personaly I liked this one the best.

okay this thread can be closed, i fiqured it out and set up a nice lil script, i sat near him with me connected via wifi to the router/switch and i kept denying access from his computer to the internet by blocking his IP, then when he went to his desktop, i banned it and turned on access back to the laptop, and when he went back to the laptop, i switched back lol, i did it like 4 times and he said "well god must be helping you so i'm going to bed lol"

nobodies mentioned this one yet.

turn on cain and reverse dNS poison him all day long, that way when he logs into his bank account/gmail/etc you can grab his password and steal his identity........ and then kill him

no but seriously, just stop being a softy

shoulda put more time into finding a legitimate roomate

one of many life lessons

live with it buddy... i'm pretty sure that now you will think twice next time you find your roomates in WOW forums or whatever

install a keylogger, get his account for his game, change his password. This should be enough to give him a heart attack, problem solved!

on most routers, i know this works with linskys, it hase a page about internet access and you can limit acess to that website during certain hours of the day, but he could still use a proxy so i would just annoy him with parrental controls.
