has anyone got any screen shots of linux or a site with screen shots on because im thinking of puting it on an old computer because it sounds like a GREAT OS

Check out the Monthly Desktop threads in Photoshop Contests. Quite a few of us are running Linux. :)

One of the cool things about linux is it's extensibility. Since you were asking about screen shots I'll assume you're talking about running in graphical mode. The way the environment looks and behaves is controlled directly by what window manager is running, so just bear in mind that just because you get a screen shot of a certain distro behaving a certain way, doesn't mean that it's stuck looking like that.

Some of them are light and clean and fast--some are shiny and slick and laden with eye-candy. This can be changed after installation, and in some cases, people even run different wm's depending on what they're doing.

If you're trying to choose a distro to start with, you might take this quiz. Another suggestion might be to simply try out several distros as live cd versions (that way you don't have to take the trouble/risk of installing things on your hard drive. Here is a pretty big list of live cds to try out.

Do not put multiple on one disc. They should mostly/all fit on a CD.

great thats super,im sick of changing my OS then having trouble with it,the worst was when i baught a computer with xp brand new and i couldn't get IE7 because i couldn't validate windows

ah, I thought it was openbox but I had never seen the panel before and thought it might be another *box that came with that one.
