I got this book by mistake as a present about a year and a half ago. It was for christmas. I actually asked for a book on coding in python i saw at borders but i got this instead. But i read it once and thought it was retarded,; then my brother found it somewhere in the house yesterday and showed it to me and asked if he could have it. I remembered how pointless it was and i told him sure if he wants to learn nothing. But this book is seriously one of the worst ive ever read. its just a book for script kiddies trying to be more 1337. theres no information at all that is useful. It has an ok explaination of binary but thats about it. All it does is perpetuation old sterotypes of hackers as well as portray them as annoying and arrogant. So if any of you happen to come across this book, pick it up as a joke, but dont waste your hard earned money on it. its sincere crap.

Yes, we have all seen *that* book, the pages themselves are toxic and the binding is made from the tears of babies :nono:

If that is the one from tapeworm, I think it was intended to be funny (while still showing some total noobs the basics). you have to read it tongue-in-cheek.

I know the book you guys are talking about. The dudes name was indeed tapeworm (which ticked me off. That was my handle when I was, like, twelve) and yeah, it was more or less supposed to be comic. Stank hit it right on the button there. If nothing else, it's an interesting attempt to write about the culture of the hacker kiddies. I personally found it mildly entertaining.

i guess it might be redeemed now. it was still frustrating. this just goes to show how ignorant script kiddies are. it has the god damned leet alphabet in the cover. like you couldnt figure it out yourself.

I've never read this crappy book you're speaking of, but I still remember the first purchase I made on the internet. It was the Hacker's Black Book. This book is a load of crap, it basically describes many types of DoS and DDoS attacks, and how they work. The book comes with a bunch of "hacking programs" such as "The Ping of Death" and sub7. Nothing you can't download by yourself. Also included in the book is the source code of the ILOVEYOU virus, along with comments on what it does. It also shows how to "crack" 30-days limits on sharewares with a little program that can modify an executable so that it changes the system clock when it is executed, putting it back in time. Not only this teaches you nothing of cracking, but it is also pretty lame as many non-geeks have figured out some dumb programs used the system clock to know if the trial period was over. I think I bought the book back in 2003, but I think I make a safe bet saying it still sucks, the description of the book on their website still corresponds to the crap I have.

P.S.: I just noticed how their website is full of spelling mistakes.

Easy to understand with many examples.

Every day you hear in the daily news about hackers, virus, worms and trojans, SUB7, TCP, IP, PING, spoofing, sniffing, DDOS attacks, ...? And you don't know exactly what it is and how hackers do that. Don't rest a "lamer", Hacker's Blackbook let's you know and discovers many secrets.

Incredible how easy hacking and cracking is!

The book shows how simple you can use these programs. Scary? Sure, you must be carefull. The ONLINE READERS AREA and the CD-ROM helps and provides "clean" files. Tipp: Never download files from sites you don't know. Hiding adware, spyware and trojans in free download files is actually a big problem.

Testimonial:

It does seem like these kinds of books are meant to be taken with a grain, or an entire shaker, of salt. Sort of like the Zombie Survival Guide.

the zombie survival guide is actually really funny, and good for when the undead emerge and start to attack. For the 1337 h4x0r handbook, there might actually be people who believe it, at least more than the zombie book.

NTM the ZSG actually provides some realistic help for when the need to bug out because of a legitimate emergency arises. And the reason that people are more apt to believe the "Leet Hacker Handbook*" is because of the subject material. Because people still see zombies as a hollywood creation. I'm not saying they won't attack, I'm just saying its very unlikely.

And I know how funny it is, I've read it cover to cover.

*It is not 1337, and it deserves d347h. Therefore, I will not cipher it into 1337.
