EPROMs

3 posts in this topic

Not too long ago, I bought an EPROM reader/writer, and thought it might be cool to poke around with the firmware of an old Protel COCOT. Is there any way to decode or modify the binary file that was outputted?

as long as you can read and write to and from the thing you should be able to use a hex editor to change whatever you want.

Assuming there is no authentication/signing/CRC, otherwise you'll have to patch that out or generate the proper hashes.

If there is a hash you might get lucky and it will tell you the expected hash and one you are using that failed (would require some debug or OSD out though).

I've encountered this in dvd, router and switch firmware patching.
