My Website

26 posts in this topic

Hello everyone, I hate to bother you on this subject, but I am the owner of a website called alliedsnipersunited.org/ and of a game server of the same name. We had a bit of trouble with someone hacking our website twice today, and it is possible that it will continue. If you can not help me. The person who did it, is unknown to us. He was playing in our server, and was cheating. He told us if we banned him we would be sorry. Well it came to the point to ban this person.

After we did so he proceeded to disrupt my website and changed our home page. And said we were a bunch of cheaters, and said i told you so. We were able to fix it. Then he did it again, and said each time it would be worse. Well we were able to find the problem in a script with binary code in it. Thanks to our webmaster, who is a ex hacker himself. We have fixed the problem at this time. And the reason I am here, is because he left his calling card with logo, and website info in it.

All I am asking is that you help me in stopping this. We never have looked for trouble, all we want is a peaceful game server and website. We have rules we follow, and we don't allow cheaters in the server. All that does is ruin the fun for those who want to play. The cheater gets his kicks, and we loose our fun. Now with this everytime we have a cheater I will have to shut down the server. What fun is that.

Will you plz help me with this situation. I mean I don't care if you hack or not, But i just want left out of it. Thats all I am asking. You know Ppl don't have to cheat to have fun, and on my website there is no money or info anyone can use.

S I mean come on. Go hack the NSA, or NASA, or even a bank or something. Just let me run my personnal site in peace PLZ. Thankyou

I don't think that anyone on binrev was hacking your server. But I respect your effort to run a nice cheat free server. Keep it up.

I'm sorry this is happening to you and your clan.

But,anybody can take a binrev jpeg and put in on a site,server...

It doesnt prove it was someone in binrev.

What was the persons nickname on your server?

You are using PHP-Nuke from 2004, there are ALOT of security holes in it.Although you have NukeSentinel against attacks, it's most likely the cracker got in because of your outdated PHPNuke.

You should check your access logs and watch out for stange files on your server, also change your usernames/passwords for FTP SSH etc..

I'm surprised there isn't more of an effort on the side of binrev to track this kid down and votekick punt him from the forums, too.

And uh.. who are you going to sue? Just curious.

Even if there was a lot of effort being done, it's still not possible to find the person who did this.

It's probably some random skiddy who did it.

No respectable person here at Binrev would do that.

For all we know, it could be Stankdawg.

:P

But of course it isn't.

Against who? BinRev? You have to know who is doing it before you can take em to court. Like others have said, they linked to an image anyone can do that. If he linked to the Google image on their homepage, would you go after Google?

Maybe the hacker is on these forums, maybe he isn't. But either way you need to update your site to the latest version, you still might not be safe but at least it's a step in the right direction.

You are more worried about who's doing it rather than fixing/preventing it?

Good point. If the current guy is stopped, whats to say the next guy doesn't do it?

A respected member of BinRev would not do that.

I'm really suspicious that they haven't named the guy's nick.

First you need to realize that nobody here had to go through an application program to join or post. There are over 10,000 people who are registered to the forums and plenty more that just browse without registering, so saying that it's our responsibility to find the guy and deal with him is crazy.

As many have said before, you should just get rid of the site and start fresh with a more recent and secure version of PhP nuke. It will take time, but that's what is needed if you don't feel like being defaced all of the time.

Haha, they h4x0red your site, but they fail at HTML:

  1. They put a <center>, inside another <center>
  2. They put a <p align="center"> inside a <center>
  3. They forgot to close both <center>s, with a </center>
  4. They don't close the <img> tag with the '>'

5. They probably couldn't care less.

Original poster: You should provide the admins with the person's IP address, so they can cross reference it with their IP logs for the forums/site.

I Just got home and saw this thread. For the record once again...

BinRev does not support or condone defacement of web sites. This is malicious action with mal intent and is not the true essence of hacking. The hack was not endorsed, condoned, or executed by any of us that run and maintain this site. That is the opposite of what the Binary Revolution is all about.

1) Update your CMS (someone said postnuke?) to the latest version.

2) Check your filesystem and see if there are any unknown files, programs, or accounts that were installed that provide a backdoor into your server.

3) PM me whatever information that you do have (username/handles, IP address, etc...)

DO NOT POST THE INFORMATION HERE! Send it via email or private message. I cannot guarantee that I can help. We don't even know if it is a user here who is being an ass or someone who actually dislikes binrev as much as he dislikes you and is just trying to stir up trouble. I will at least look into it for you.

Also for the record: People who cheat at online games LOSE AT LIFE! :fight:

What does this even mean?

Original Author: Although some of the members in this forum are a bit childish and may mean to do harm, most of us are well respected individuals who offer nothing but help and information in the areas listed in the forums. I hope that you have not gained an ill favored view upon us or our community because of this n00bish act of stupidity. As StankDawg said, we do not condone this and the moderating team will do what they can to try to help you.

well, I know we don't have any members registered on the forums with the name "evolution", but if you provide us with the IP (feel free to PM it to me or one of the other mods) we'lldo our best to track down the problem user and help you if we can.

I went by Evolve a few years ago, but it wasn't me obviously. Anything I can do to help you, I'll look over with Stank when he gets around to seeing what he does with the data you send him.

Now for the legal part. The minute you started "looking" around that server, you probably voided any chance of prosecution. That isn't set in stone, but good legal attorneys would show the forensic audit was botched, simply because you may not know better. From the initial photgraphic evidence of the screen in question (on film), to not cloning it straight away onto forensicly sterile media.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you likely have no court case. Catching the guy and making his life a pain in the ass, that is your only plan B at this point. Good luck, and if I can point you in a good direction with what you have, I will.

Wow, well done RightCoast.

As for the original poster: Yes, I understand the frustration with dealing with people who know just enough to put a tack in your ass, but you are getting a little too heated. BinRev is a very well known site/group/forums/whatnot, so sure, the person that did this, probably visits from time to time, but to just start claiming legal action makes others mad, which will solve nothing. Like they said, update the software, which will really help, and should be done anyways, and if nothing more happens, then take it as a good learning experience. If this "Evolution" is persistant, contact the ISP as well as any admins that can get involved. Legal action would be virtually impossible, but if it is, clearly not worth the monetary effort you would have to sink into this case.

I mean, let us assume this person is under the age of 18. Then what? You have to sue his/her parents in a civil court, and then, you really are only directly punishing the parents. You must also consider the damage done. I hardly doubt it was above $5000 ($7500 some areas,) so that means small claims. Which in turn means, you better hope this person was in your state, or it becomes more difficult and costly (travel.)

By all means, try and work to get some punishment dealt to this person. Hopefully they will learn, someway, sometime, that this behavoir doesn't prove anything, and is rather childish. Also, please, if you have an IP address, or any other things to identify the culprit, do not post them on this board. Rather, contact any ISPs, and the Admins/moderators of this board via PM. When you put that stuff on a public board, you are only furthering problems, and possibly hurting yourself. I know it is hard to be responsible and not to be really pissed off, but that is the only way something can be done.

Good luck, and hopefully things will work out.
