school's network

41 posts in this topic

Ok all I want to know is if I have access to the network on the computer can I use it and see the files on the other computers in the school's network and if I can is there a place on the computer that I can find its IP address, an account name for that computer and a password for that account.

Well buddy, what are the computes to begin with? Windows machines? Macs? The different computers use differnet networking standards. And how are they setup? Is login done local or are machines logging into an authentication server? Do you even know where the target files are? They computers don't have to store the files on them, they are probably in a central file server (if the machines aren't logging in localy).

And as far as connecting from the internet, it is very much possible. But really, for all purposes, pretend its not.

The computers are running on windows and my schools to cheap to get a server for all of the computers. They don't think that anyone is even smart enough to get the idea to do this so they don't really have much security for them either.

You should change all of the desktop wallpapers to say "Turk 182".

What exactly are you trying to accomplish, specifically. Like a specific scenario.

A honeytrap could pwn you, just mess with your own setup at home. Make some virtual machines and mess with them. getting banned from computers till your 18 will be very crap.

There's plenty of wargames around, protect your future and hax0r them, then you'll be able to show off to anyone you want.

Do you even have a laptop, wificard and transportation?

:)

Good point generally, but I don't think a school would be running a honeypot.

First off I live in Louisiana second so many people (not including me xD) use the computer I'm using as a gateway nobody'll ever know it was me. In fact I never had any real intention to do any harm to the computers. I just wanted to see if I could actually do it. I'm one of those kids that just does these things cuz we're bored. And your right we may have a network admin and I just don't know about it but they're still not gonna know it was me. I'll screw my own computer up sometimes (on purpose) just so i can have a chance to do these things without gettin caught

to find out if you have a network admin call the school and say, "i need to speak with someone in the networking department" or, "i need help i forgot my password who would i talk to.. " etc etc.. there are ways to do this sort of thing without being conspicuous

Maybe I missed something, but if you already have remote access to one of the computers, why search for files "containing IP address"? Other than that - you need to learn basic networking, or, in other words - learn to walk before you try to run.

Schools aren't that hard to hack. Right now, I have been playing around with the network in my computer course. I found out that all the computers in my county are hooked together. Today, everyone in the tech class went around shutting other peoples computers off through command prompt.Sadly enough, if anyone screws around with that, they'll be suspended from using the school computers for the year. If you touch it from home, they take one look at the logs and they can trace it back to you. I wouldn't try messing around with the computers because it is a serious offense. But it is possible and very easy.

It all depends on the setup and the sysadmin. The sysadmin at my school is ok. He blocks all the obvious stuff that could be damaging.. But I have found main switches at school with freely open telnet/GUI manager/admin access available. These can disrupt the network for a pretty long time if they are shut down and have passwords set on them. But yeah, it's generally not a good idea to mess wiith the school.

why the school network? it is a government network, unless it is a private school. It is even more dangerous on a college network, since you are over 18 and the college will most likely try to prosecute to the full extent of the law. The gov networks are not to mess with, even if you only think you are going to be suspended from using computers, or expelled from school. You will also be put on a list and quite possible monitored. If this is all for your pure enjoyment and not to reach an objective, what is the point. just my opinion.

OK I'M JUST GONNA TRY AND GET THIS FUCKIN POINT ACROSS. THE ONLY REASON WE HAVE A SCHOOL NETWORK IS SO THE TEACHERS CAN SHARE FILES ITS HARDWIRED NOT WIRLESS AND THERE ISNT A MOTHER FUCKIN NETWORK ADMIN. The reason I want files that will tell me the ip address an account name and its password is so I can get into one computer and hop to another through it. Now that I've said it a little more clearly will some one give me the answer I want.
