remote desktop software

5 posts in this topic

Hey all, recently I've been messing around with VNC a bit and found it pretty cool. I've also heard that VNC isn't very secure though (passwords sent in plain text, connection unencrypted, etc), and I want to set up some kind of remote desktop server for me to log in to at school. Every so often I ssh into my server from school, but a command line just isn't the same as a desktop heh. Does anyone know of a good, secure remote desktop server that they would recommend I use? I'm running Linux.

Well, a lot of people tunnel VNC over SSH to make it more secure. My understanding is that the password exchange is not in plain text, but the data channel afterworld is. Personally, I like NX Server for remote GUIs on Linux, if you can get it to run right. It can be a pain.
