Making VLC output as a webcam device

7 posts in this topic

In windows, I am trying to stream movies over Skype. The idea is that if I can make VLC register like a webcam, then I can just play movies, select my input device in Skype, and get on with the show. I was able to do it with live TV, but live tv isn't half as interesting as the movies I have on my computer.

Any help on how to do this?

I don't know about skype but for msn you can use this, although I haven't found a keygen that works for it (let me know if you find one plz)

I would prefer something that doesn't require a keygen for. It seems to me it shouldn't be that hard. I wouldn't be surprised if this functionality is already built into VLC. So, anything else? a plugin, extra Skype module, etc? I tried it with Festoon's share feature, but it only displays static images. No movies or games.

I'm not looking for a server to broadcast the data. I am looking for a way to change either your desktop or a video into a webcam video imput source, so that I can, for example, stream over Skype. I'm on a college network, and they don't take kindly to servers... Not like I could figure out how to set one up anyways. Skype is easiest, if I can figure this out. I have server space with php and mysql, it would be best if I could just stream to a flash client. But no such luck yet.

I really need to learn to code, so I can do this myself.
