Unlocking regions on DVD players

9 posts in this topic

Is it possible?

I use a Hyundai region 2 DVD player and i'm curious if I could 'hack' it to set it to become multi region.

I can give the more specific model if needed.

I just don't fancy spending money on a new player to play my Region 1 films when I could set it multi region [if it's possible]

Any help would be grand.

Panda.

You have to get a special modchip for it that will get rid of the region locking. You can either buy the modchip and solder it on yourself or some companies will let you send in your player and they will do it for you. I've never done it myself (my computer can play any region without any modding required :) ) so I don't know any good vendors, but there are a lot of online ones, just make sure you get a second opinion on one before you use them (cause its a good way to steal a lot of dvd players if its a send in service).

My first thought was to play them on my PC, but after trying it this morning I get errors coming up to install DirectX? I already have it on my pc [not the latest version because it asks for a windows authentic check]

So that's one option out of the window unless I find a different version of DirectX.

I'll look up on some more info about settings DVD's to multi region too before work, failing to find a decent reply I'll probably get a cheap multi region player, they go for under £30 these days:>

If you have a DVD burner, use DVDshrink and AnyDVD and "recopy" your DVDs. To be region free.

well, that souldn't be a problem if you are legit! Ha! <_<

I'd say your only hope is to do as zal91 said or find a program/game of your's or a friends and hope that it has higher version of DirectX that you can use, a lot will have this included and you dont actually have to install that program

Slightly off the topic but:

My windows was 'legit' when I bought my PC, came with the authentic copy sticker and all that crap on my computer when I formatted my computer and tried to use the same key it said it wasn't legit. Damn computer shops lying:<

nice find dylan.

if that didn't work or if anyone else has this problem and can't find their DVD player on google, i think zal91's idea works best. AnyDVD can get rid of any copy right and protection making it region free and the like. However if you have a lot of DVDs that you want to watch, i know they make multi region DVD players for about $50 USD
