No, not restore! Backup!

2 posts in this topic

To elaborate on the title:

My friend's mom owns a small company where they use computers. She was trying to make a backup, and accidentally hit restore and now has lost everything. She called her 'computer guy' who will probably charge her to do nothing but reformat the thing and tell her she's SOL. (much like my local geek squad here, I should go work for them)

I figured, being an awesome nice guy and all, that I could help her out. I dont know the full details since I havent talked to her directly about the problem.

All I know right now is that the OS she is on is Windows XP. I am guessing she was using either the windows backup feature (there is one, right?) or something in Norton.

I'll try to get more info as soon as I can. Is there anything I can do to help her get all her files back? It's pretty important.

Thanks alot guys.

Try a data recovery program such as Get Data Back or Stellar Pheonix, run it off of an external drive if possible so you don't overwrite what may still be left on the drive.
