Manually change Windows MBR

9 posts in this topic

Basically I wanted to manually edit the MBR, not just repair it. I wanted to choose which OS booted automatically.

I was thinking, and I had an idea.

I might go out and buy OSX86 and have a multi-boot setup. Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OSX86, and possibly a Linux Distro. Slackware, Backtrack, or Ubuntu.

Not sure what !!! is for but boot into dos and fdisk /mbr. This will repair the mbr, and again, not sure if thats what you wanted.

Sorry, No. I wanted to edit it myself manually instead of just repairing it. I figured it out right when I posted it though, so I edited my post. My bad.

Mods, please delete. Thanks.

If your gona use *nix, use grub or lilo to handle it. More customization can be done :)

Well I'm still not sure at this point. If I do use *nix I probably would use grub. But Im not sure if I really want *nix on here or not. That many operating systems is stretching it, not enough HDD space for what I wanna do.

I wouldn't even wipe my ass with the source code of lilo, just my thoughts
