Larry Ellison's legacy...

4 posts in this topic

I just scored a NIC - New Internet Computer - for $40. It has a Cyrix processor, 64MB of RAM, and uses a live CD, much like... KNOPPIX.

KNOPPIX runs fine on this little box. Everything works (although I haven't tested sound yet). With only 64MB, you get twm instead of KDE. Next step will be some type of USB storage.

Overall, a nice little box. Can't wait to explore it.

Well, hotplug does not start on the NIC with KNOPPIX and a manual modprobe usb-uhci fails (although modprobe usbcore and usb-storage work). I'm pretty ignorant about the whole usb/hotplug thing, although I have been perusing http://linux-hotplug.sourceforge.net/ (not http://hotplug.sourceforge.net/, which is weird). I will continue to post my progress.
