I am looking for a way to bypass the protection on the iPod with windows so that I can copy songs to a different computer. Any help or resources are welcome.

There's the ml_ipod plugin for Winamp, PodsBlitz for Java, and far too many programs that could also be used.

You could try ephpod from ephpod.com It's pretty powerful yet easy to use.

a) There is no 'protection', they just hide the files and rename the files to suit their database. You can use the existing database to do all the extracting (which is what all of the programs out there do), or you can create your own database and everything else using the id3 tags (similar to Tag&Rename).

Simply enable hidden files and mount the ipod as a normal datadrive, all your music is there.

It would not be hard at all to create a re-indexing program to entirely rebuild the ipod index after some shoddy software blows it away; this does however require the original user to put in sensible id3 information (preferable) or using cddb and audio-sampling databases (much longer and less-accurate method).

Regardless, try ephpod (already mentioned), the various winamp plugins or SharePod:

Very cool info as well:
