SXSW - The Future of Darknets

2 posts in this topic

Just listened to a panel recording from SXSW (“where the web's most creative minds share their ideas about how interactive technology will shape our future”) titled “The Future of Darknets: Can Hollywood See the Light?”.

It was a discussion on copyrights, and features some interesting exchanges with a MPAA representative who gets complete shot down by audience members over DRM.

The SXSW INTERACTIVE FESTIVAL brings together uber-geeks, tech entrepreneurs, and digital innovators from around the world for four days of keynote speeches, Trade Show, panels, parties and assorted evening fun. Now in its thirteenth year, this is the event where the web's most creative minds share their ideas about how interactive technology will shape our future.

I wouldn't say that she got shot down. Her counter-arguments were fairly solid. Except for the one on the MPAA pirating a copy of the "This film is not yet rated" movie, to which her answer was just downright poor.

Nevertheless that last bloke did more harm than good for our cause by losing a passive tone of voice, and by prolonging his feud to the end of the debate. I agreed with him, but he seemed like he was venting rather than giving articulate points.
