Icann changes put domain names at risk

4 posts in this topic

Icann is thinking about new proposals so that unless you supply real domain contact details your domain will get taken away in 15 days:

Under new proposals from The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann), which is responsible for worldwide domain name policy, every domain owner will be obliged to update their full contact details on Icann's publicly available WHOIS database annually.

I guess I'll be changing my fake data to a PO box then...

This is a good idea in theory for spamming bastards but I really don't want to spread out all my information to people. Maybe at least they could make the phone number optional.

A lot of registrars have the "privacy guard" option or domain by proxy which supplies perfectly legit info (just not yours). I think it's a one time fee as well.
