9 posts in this topic

i am still wondering. what does a good hacker take with him to a event like defcon, ccc or WTH ?

i always see some scsi servers when i look at photo's. do people actually take these big machines with them and where are they used for?

I can't speak for everyone but im assuming everyone takes with them the convenient laptop.

EDIT BY STROM: "conivent"?! it's dictionary time!

Im a really bad typer lately. I dont generally check back at what I type. So half of what I type sucks. Oh well.

I typically take my laptop, my digital camera, wifi card, assortment of cables and antennae and whatnot, some telephones, and my telephone wiring toolbelt. Most of the stuff besides the laptop ends up sitting in the car unused for the entire trip.

My Operational Detachment (consiting of myself and two friends) plan on taking with us:

2 PVR-250 hardware recorders.

3 laptops w/wifi equipment.

3 cell phones.

1 or 2 VoIP phones. (Why, you ask? Why not?)

802.11b Access point

Maybe other older telephonic for good measure. (That would be me bringing that)

Digital cameras

Power Strip.

We also plan on picking up a cheap P3 or P4 somewhere in las vegas, installing certain utilities on it (including Asterisk), using it for nefarious purposes during the weekend, and selling it before we head back.

a pvr-250 is a pci video encoding card - I use one in my htpc for "tivo" functionality. not sure what they use them for at defcon though

Or "Gambiit" he was a kid I knew that had a handy dandy "hacker belt" and on that belt he some how managed to attach a sledge hammer.

I wonder what happened to that kid. Chances are he fell over from the weight and never got up. :skull:
