USB thumb drives

I just bought one, and I've been using it to store WEP keys, passwords, and the like. I'm somewhat captivated by the idea of having all of that information on my keychain.

What do you do with yours?

Personally, I use mine to hold all my screenplays and stuff like that. That way I can have them with me at all times and it makes it easy to back up any changes I make to them. But that's just me.

The Abstruse One

I use mine mosty for work related things. Anti-Virus clients, Spyware removal tools and a copy of all my tech manuals. It comes in handy when out in the field without network access.

School work! In my instance the thumbdrive is as follows:

watch1.jpg

It acts mostly as a middle man for transfering documents and data only available on uni computers home, as well as a place to save the stuff I work on while at university. I also have a media player installed on it and "Portable Firefox" which lets me avoid the IE-world on the uni computers. At the present moment, I also happen to carry an hours worth of MP3s on it at this point as well... good to listen to whilst bored @ uni.

...That and hijacking Staple's sound system. :D

Must have been shitty, I've washed mine and have droped it many times from various high places some on purpose some not. Just don't buy lexar they fucking sux they are so fat they block the usb port next to them and on some front side usb ports you cant even get them in.

I usually use mine to transport pictures from place to place. And to laugh in my friend's face who had her lexar 512 just stop working. My sony microvault has been dropped off of a three story building. Still works like a charm.

transfer files back and forth between school and home. When I fix my grandma's puter I transfer files and updates because she has dial up.

I have about 5 that I use occasionally. They are Lexar and some times I have to carry a floppy to install Lexar's Thumb Drive Drivers to work on 95/98 and some times NT systems.

i have a 32 meg flash card in my usb mouse.

i used to have a version of trinux on it but i stopped all of that because i could only boot it at home.

now i keep progs on it (linux and windows) for those uni and library computers, but im thinking of throwing trinux under QEMU on it with some toys.

its just too sweet to use for simple file transfer (ftp and ssh work just fine for that, and http will do if nothing else)

i wish that more comps could boot from USB, but it will happen soon enough.

interesting side bit, i have had some luck mounting the usb (sda1) on a linux server, and corrupting cron to run graphics at a pre-detemined time (over a jumbo-tron at an NCAA-D1 girls basketball game), but it was for none to long, and still got some people in trouble.

oops

When I'm working on a particular project, I put the files on the thumb drive so anywhere I go that I can find a computer to work on (almost), I can have my work with me.

For example, FIRST Robotics season has started. I have my code snippets on the jump drive, as well as game manuals and white papers on everything that I need to work with. I also have some design stuff on there for the robot and for the web page. Just an example.

This is the exact same way I use mine. I also keep an updated copy of my resume on it because you never know when you may need one.

Not worried about losing it. It stays on my keychain with all of my five keys and my automatic entry to my wife's car. Its not going anywhere.

I store my pgp key on it, and a collection of software I find useful, such as ida, softice, some drivers, documentation, and so forth. In my case, it's a 1gb thumbdrive.
