I broke 10 posts and all I got was this lousy title!
  1. Thanks a bunch guys, this is really helping me with my paper, I'll be using MILS as an example. Thanks a lot, saved me lots of time, which i don't have to spare at the end of the term.
  2. There is no such thing. A vulnerability is a potential of a piece of code to be exploited, that is, used in other (most often malicious) way than its original purpose. If that's what you're looking for, try checking out: http://www.securityfocus.com/vulnerabilities http://www.packetstormsecurity.org/ http://www.milw0rm.com/ Aside from Intrusion Detection Systems, there aren't many new pieces of software to ensure security. (new, as in, new capabilities. Most security products have yearly releases and daily updates) As always, the easiest way to ensure security isn't the fanciest software, it's user education and sane security policies. Proper network design can't hurt you either. Thanks a bunch, looks like I've got a little reading ahead of me. My teacher isn't really tech savvy so even if the relations between terms aren't exactly correct he won't know the difference. Thanks again.
  3. I'm writing a paper for business on Information Security, Protection, Legal Requirements and so forth... I need some information on the latest security issues for one section of my report, and who better to ask than you guys o What are the latest IT vulnerabilities for companies o What are the latest "weapons" to ensure system security Any external links, or information is very much appreciated. If wanted, I can note you as a reference if the information provided is used. Thanks in advance.
  4. Thanks a bunch for the info guys, I am somewhat of a noob when it comes to Linux, I've done "some" work with it at college since I'm studying in CS, and since I don't feel like using my Main PC as a hacking machine ive been shit outta luck with little money to spend on a good laptop. This information should help me a lot i will probably try multiple suggestions and see what works best for me. I will be getting a total of 128 mb's of RAM and if i find good prices i might see if i cant get it up a little higher. Thanks again, time to go burn some CD's.
  5. Sounds good, thanks. It's a shitty machine but for 2$ i can still fuck around with it. Thanks for the info
  6. Not sure if theirs a post on this. What does everyone Listen to while hacking? Just Curious. Found this music a few days ago, and its perfect for my kind of hacking music taste. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=540715 Was wondering what everyone else listens to.
  7. Hey, recently got my hands on a laptop for like 2$ at a garage sale, It's not the best but it should be fine for general hacking purposes. This laptop will almost strictly be for hacking and programming, I was wonder which *Nix would be the best for my specs and if their are some that are more "Hacker Friendly". Specs are: Dell Latitude Pentium 2 266MHZ 4 Gig HD 64 Mb RAM (will be getting another 64 to make it 128 once a friend hooks me up) any help you be appreciated, thank in advance.
  8. Most of those websites never worked out for me..I guess I didn't like to read websites for long periods of time. I suggest searching bittorrent for some nice pdfs/chms, some great stuff there. Of course this is if you are too poor to actually buy them. lol well i use bittorrent a lot so that should not be much of a problem thanks.
  9. Thanks a bunch for the link, i should be set for a while... should be enough to get me way ahead of my class.
  10. Thanks Ill start reading up.
  11. irongeek referred me to this website
  12. Hi, Ive recently started a computer programing course in college and Ive been trying to teach myself as much as I can about programing, hacking, cracking... pretty much anything. Ive been going here and there trying to find out where i should start with little success. though I am a quick learner, I have been trying to learn different languages such as HTML, C++ and python. I was just wondering if any of you more experienced people could give me some tips on where to look where to start, pretty much give me the basics so i can work my way up. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
