  2. Hello all,

I have a question for you guys. I have been assigned 2 task today. Maybe some of you might be able to help me.

    1. What linux dist would you load for new users and older users that know linux. We are ready to move out of MS windows to linux. The ones we been thinking of are Fedora, or Ubuntu but the kde version... Which one do you think would be good? and why....

    2. I need to find a good anti virus software for some MS windows that we have... I know I said we are ready to move off of it but it's going to be about 9 months from now.

In the mean time I need to find something good for a corp network. We are using Mcafee but damm it's taking a lot of memory and resources. Which virus software would you guys recommend and why? All I need is something to protect the workstation from getting any viruses...

Any good feed back would be good.

    thanks

  3. Well if I do that, should I change my trusted router to dhcp? When I had my trusted router I had it on static ip address plus I also changed the ip address of the trusted router when I first installed it. 192.168.1.77

After configuring the FIOS router I set the same settings as my trust router... Well same ip address that I used to us. 192.168.1.77

I will connect my trusted router and see what happens. Should I just connect to the enternet port or one of the port on it since it's a 4 port router.

  4. Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone has the new FIOS Verizon wireless router installed at there home or business? I"m a little bit on the <_<<_< on the wireless router... Since I been hearing on the net some phone companies have access to the router plus your network. To top it off the installer used the coax connection rather then the ethernet connection.

I can't use my link router i had before now since it does not support the coax router... I'm a little bit scared that they might browse my network or watch on what I'm doing... more or less when I'm testing something out or doing my thing....

Let me have some of your feedback or thoughts about this.

  5. Do you have any college man? Consider an Information Science or Comp Sci bachelors if you can swing the cash, it'll really help, trust me.

Sorry I don't have the cash for something like... I'm trying to find a good education place or a free site were I could learn from other security people.

  7. Well you have to think on what you want to do. Do you want to learn program, security, etc.... Just think what you want and the best thing for you also to do is learn linux. Myself I started out with fedora, and moved from their.

I kind of know a little bit of everything, but not a lot since I'm always jumping around.

  8. Depending on the nature of the offenses, either may be appropriate. (E.g... if you expect illegal activity, you may want to obtain evidence for termination and prosecution; whereas, if you suspect people are just using the equipment for personal reasons, you may not need to hand them a beatdown.)

This decision has allready been made by the bosses, they want to take action and fire those responsible for it. They have given me the task to catch the ones and provide the necessary proof. So the monitoring tool was the only thing I could think of.

Well since I.T was able to tell you that they were surfing more... You should be able to view the log files and track them that way. The user would be very upset if the company got a hold of there personal passwords. I know that some of our users suft the web to check there mail. But that's normal.

    Good luck

  10. Hello all,

Wanted to get some feedback on what you guys thought of this product. My buddy was thinking about buying this product that will show him some security and other stuff he wants to follow down the road. I told him that he could read it on the net but he wants to start from the bottom up. He works in computers but wants to learn more.

Below is the link to the program he wants to buy. The other link is a break down what it has.

    http://hackerscenter.com/hacker/

    Kits includes

    http://kit.hackerscenter.com/contents.html

I guess for someone who wants to learn from the bottom up and is new to the security and other stuff I think this would be good for him. Any feedback would be good .

    Thanks.

  11. I think we should coin a new disease name: Script-Kiddy Disorder. 1 out of 2 script kiddies that come on have ADD, OCD, or some other malady which requires us to do the work, and is a great excuse for not being able to type. Coincidence? I think not.

Way to funny how script-kiddy try to us social engineer on us…

  12. How can you connect to a public network and knowing your secure without having to ssh to another desktop? Also what methods can be used? Enough security to login to your email without worry

You can use a VPN something like Hamachi I guess.

As for email just use Gmail with your favorite email client. Gmail uses SSL for both incoming and outgoing messages. and authentication. When using web mail just make sure you login on a secured SSL connection.

gmail only encrypts the login page. the rest of your email session is wide open.

If the web browser is pointed directly to https://mail.google.com the entire session will be encrypted. I should have been more clear about that.

I didn't now about the https:// for gmail. I will have to start using it that way... Thanks for sharing.

  14. Today I got a new router. A D-link to be precise. And when i instaled the software for it, A few minutes later it began to royaly screw my computer up. Eventualy it reached a point where about 5-30 seconds after the windows login screen would appere i would get this nasty blue screen with some sort of memory error on it. after fighting with my computer for a few hours I decided to reinstal windows. Ive reinstaled it before, and nothing went weird as I went through it. after it was all done, I did not get anything pooping up asking me for a serial code or anything and i was upset to discover that my video, sound and networking drivers were uninstaled. So now that everything was fine and dandy I decided time to go get my pictures and videos and programs and all that other crap I had on my old computer's life. so I checked in the program files, everything was there, I then went to drag all the crap out of my documents and settings into my new account, just like what i did last time i reinstaled windows. Only this time I windows said to me " Fuck you" and said that accses was denied. Now at this point I am unhappy, seeing that I just lost around 2 years of acumalated work and stuff. So the moale to this story is, dont install d-link software. And my question is, How can I hack into windows to get my stuff back? Sorry for my bad spelling and stuff, I havent reinstalled Firefox yet, becuse its in my other file, and my spellchecker thingy doesnt seem to be working right.

Well first off why would you install the software for d-link. You could of configured it threw your browser... I'm a little bit lost on your files. You said you installed the OS back on your machine but when you went into my doc it gave you a denied when you tried to copy them over First off how did you keep those file there when you reinstalled them. Do you have then back up in other place rather then the machine it self?

Also make sure your user has admin right that might also be the trouble.

  15. Right install Vista first and use the HD management software that comes with Vista. Create your drive from there then install your linux Dist. I have my dell laptop with Vista and Fedora 8.

So far I love it!! Good luck and if you need help just let us know.

  16. Also I suggest:

Counter Hack - good book that teaches the basics on security

    Unix Unleashed, 4th Edition

Unix Weekend Crash Course if you are in a rush

Hacking - A nice low level book. You can find it at thinkgeek.com

    Networking Complete

Some of these may be at your local library - most were for me.

Thanks for the books . I will have to check them out.

  17. Hello all,

I was wondering does anyone have in pdf format the haking Magazine? Just thought I give a try to locate the pdf files.

What is "The haking magazine"? There are several hacking magazines. If you are referring to "hakin9", the German/European magazine, then I would say that we don't allow warez to be posted here. Most printed magazines are copyrighted and sharing them would be copyright infringement. Other online hacking zines are distributed free.

With that now being said, please clarify your question.

    Thanks StankDawg

I had a feeling it would be copyright.... Sorry for asking a dumb question... My bad.

Ps. You have the right magzine hakin9
