  1. Thanks, guys. I think I'll just keep looking. Too many risks with something like this.
  2. True, although the emails back and forth I've had sound pretty legit. There's also the bonus of it being in my home city, so presumably my parents would be able to take a look at it before buying. You're right though, there's a possibility of getting screwed over that really worries me. As for eBay, I'm thinking that the shipping would kill me. =\ Hm, maybe I'll just ship my own slightly shitty computer back home through the mail. I'm just wondering how long customs will hold it up.
  3. I figured if anyone would be able to tell me whether or not this is a good deal or a rip-off, it'd be you guys. So anyway, yeah. This: http://halifax.craigslist.org/sys/283034366.html Do you guys think $400 Canadian is too much for it? I'd be going splits on it with my parents so we'll have a decent computer back home, since I'll be stuck there for a few months soon and can't take my own computer with me. Opinions are very appreciated. Thanks!
  4. Ah, okay. Gotcha. I hadn't thought of the ISP blocking it, but I'd wondered about firewalls. Thanks!
  5. I knew it would be something ridiculously obvious. Oh well, I won't learn what the hell I'm doing if I don't ask questions. Thanks a lot for the quick reply!
  6. I should probably be prefacing this with a "this is likely a retarded question" because the answer is probably really obvious... Okay, so I'm trying to use nbtstat -A [iP Address] right? But every time I try (tried several different addies) I get "Host not found". Only, I know the person is online, because I'm talking to them. Could someone explain to me why? Thanks!
  7. 110mb is great now...after that major update a few months ago...it was nice before too...but I highly recommend it. Freehostia.com is what I'm using right now...not too bad..a little limiting...no hot linking etc. I can't vouch for how good or bad they are, but I've been reading through their site, and they sound really... I dunno, unprofessional. Or at least the wording on their site is really unprofessional.
  8. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839018 explains a workaround for XP. I tried it with the computers on my network and it worked just fine. Related stupid n00b question: is it possible to somehow do this to a computer not on your network? The freak out value would be great.
  9. New here, but I've been lurking around for a month or so. Absolutely love the forums--one of the most interesting and informative ones I've ever had the fortune of stumbling upon. Doubt I'll have a lot to contribute, but I'll definitely be reading.
