  1. it's nice to see some telecommunication matters mentioned in a popular show, this time "My name is Earl" episode 3x19 things - CID - reverse lookup (result is a payphone) and btw : the guy who is checking the number online is a gay like one of well known phreaks - ripping off/removing payphone from the street
  2. BTW: for reverse lookup there is http://www.sullr.com/ http://www.reversephonedetective.com/ http://www.freecellphonelookups.com/
  3. I was watching the latest "Criminal Minds" episode and Garcia mentioned this IMHO this is bullshit but just to get sure I want to ask you if something like that might had been possible
  4. this is the first time I see someone has done lifting mechanism which IMHO is pointless http://www.evilmadscientist.com/article.php/phonemod
  5. I've posted here somewhere a list of virtual PBX'es so you might want to have this for your setup btw : VoipJet is also not so bad

  11. I stoped using Putty when I ran across Kitty http://www.9bis.net/kitty/?page=Portability&zone=en however right now I'm using portable version of SecureCRT and I'm very pleased
  12. Why don't you try OpenGeu ? It is based on Ubuntu, amazingly fast and detects almost all the hardware. WiFi configuration is just a piece of cake.
  13. Why paint ? This is DELL so you can buy a template and then make a printout or stick the logo to the template instead of damaging the laptop cover.
  14. not personally as I'm using phones easy to unlock however I know ppl who had positive experience with this service
  15. try here http://www.uniquephones.com/ http://www.discount-unlock.com/ and if you need to unlock smartphone this is a good service also http://www.imei-check.co.uk/
  16. http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/25347 I think that Noah might expect some odd phone calls
  17. comment from Mitnick http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/02/m...ck-reviews.html IMHO : SE is not a part of phreaking, it's just something that may help in getting useful info so readers should not take if for granted that every phreaker is using SE BTW : I'm not sure if this link has been posted http://www.forbes.com/2008/02/28/long-hack...0229hacker.html
  18. http://store.artlebedev.com/office/teleport2/ http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/paliha/teleport/ and something related http://www.tidbits.com/tb-issues/TidBITS-084.html http://www.unityelectronics.com/product-pr...ipherals/p/PL_R from my point of view in the past we had modems and software to get this done and nowadays you just need VMware & FXO to make this happen BTW : They have also nice looking phone http://store.artlebedev.com/office/paliha-750/ ATmega128 microcontroller - so I guess it can be hacked ;-) for example for bluebox
  19. these are virtual PBXes so you can configure them as you like http://www.pbxes.com/ http://www.voxalot.com/ http://www.mysipswitch.com/ http://www.liberailvoip.it/ http://www.simply-connect.de/ http://www.oigaa.com/ http://www.gtalk2voip.com/ http://www.flashphone.ru/
  20. Well, the person would be Mark Spencer but I would post a question here http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/ or use contact page http://www.asterisk.org/contact but faster answer whom you should contact I guess you can get from IRC channel. btw: nice, that's the lady from 'military activity'
  21. I have installed libmad and libmp3lame as it is required. Now I install SOX but it does not support MP3 so what should I do (under CentOS) to make SOX supporting MP3 ? I know it needs to be recomplied or something but I don't know how. I thought that this would be helpful http://www.linuxweblog.com/convert-ogg-to-mp3 but this version of SOX doesn't play certain mp3 files and rpmbuild is not present in the system, upon installing it complaints about lacking of error: Failed dependencies: elfutils >= 0.128 is needed by rpm-build-4.4.2.3-0.2.rc1.i386 libnssutil3.so is needed by rpm-build-4.4.2.3-0.2.rc1.i386 libpopt.so.0(LIBPOPT_0) is needed by rpm-build-4.4.2.3-0.2.rc1.i386 rpm = 4.4.2.3-0.2.rc1 is needed by rpm-build-4.4.2.3-0.2.rc1.i386 the bottom line is : I need cmd line MP3 player that can amplify the volume and output the sound to STDOUT no, MPG123 is not an option in here as it does not amplify while sending audio to stdout
  22. OK, I managed to compile mplayer from source. Now I need to find out how to send data to stdout in the exact way mpg123 is sending via -s parameter.
  23. I had the same idea however I'm still searching for dependencies XFree86-libs >= 4.0.3 is needed by mplayer-1.0pre7-3.i386 libslang-utf8.so.1 is needed by mplayer-1.0pre7-3.i386 maybe you have an URL for precompiled Mplayer ? I don't need X Windows support, not video, just mp3 and I can't install this player.
