  1. I wouldn't even wipe my ass with the source code of lilo, just my thoughts
  2. No, I love pointless posts
  3. file servers are not challenging
  4. IBM giving something away online please to tell. the site said after I field out the paper work, it's only going to take two weeks. Uh yeah I would except I did the offer like a year maybe two years ago. It's safe to say it's never going to come. I was asking a question. I don't IBM would do something like that and not send it, maybe the site that was offering it was sending out IBM products...
  5. BUY A COMPILER, WTF!!!!!!!! use gcc or another open source and/or gnu software
  6. IBM giving something away online please to tell. the site said after I field out the paper work, it's only going to take two weeks.
  7. I've been using linux for the past 8 years and I havn't seen even one command change
  8. get yourself a thumbdrive.
  9. in order to remove IE 100% you would have to remove the file manager too.
  10. For the last 6 month I've completely move to linux, I've used wine to use all the windows things I had to have. But there is still one thing I can't do and that is have my Johnny Castaway screen saver run at idle times like xscreensaver does. I've used this screensaver since I started using Windows 3.1 (when I was 7 or 8) so it has sentimental value to me. I've been messing around to see how xscreensaver (xss) works. and I found out that all the SS are just binary files, in /usr/lib/xscreensavers/*. And there is also /usr/share/xscreensaver/* for some configuration, and also /etc/X11/XScreenSaver* Now, I'm able to start the screensaver using wine. I even made it change screen resolution at start because it only runs at 600x480 at fullscreen. here is the shell script #!/bin/sh xrandr -s 640x480 wine $HOME/.wine/drive_c/windows/SCRANTIC.SCR /s xrandr -s 1024x768 My question is how do I go about configuring these XSS files to run my shell script. I've been trying to edit them but with out any luck. Any help or ideas would be apresheated. This is the last thing I need in order to be 100% happy with my switch to linux.
  11. Question for you, you said "I am moderately skilled at" "Command prompts" but you said "I started, but had no motivation to continue:" "NMap". nmap is a command line program just like all the other commands you enter what makes nmap so different for you?
  12. It's been a long time since I dialed into one of my own computers. When you connect you just use normal protocols. and this forum is a bbs. Oh, and file transfers are a bitch over dialup/dailin.
  13. I'm trying to compile and configure X. I've done this a few times in the past with my linux from scratch system. But it's more of a step by step and mindless configuration. My first question is what are the pros and cons of X.org V. Xfree86, those are the only two I know of, if there are others please tell? One of the reasons I want to recompile is that I can't change my resolution past 1024x768. The other reason is I want to learn more about X. What are the packages, dependencies, and any tips and tricks you may have for me to know?
  14. The P4 cards has been hacked, but you have to no alot more about the cards then the old P3s, DaveTV is also taking down the P4 stream in a few months if they havn't already. So it would be point less to start using the P4 cards. I don`t know much about the P5 (D1) cards. There is a new card/D2, but I have hear much information and don;t have one yet. I remember the good old days of bootlegging satellite TV was just a point and click away . Then again I don't watch TV anymore
  15. I just thought of something, make a linux box the teachers and admins at my school don't know anything about *nix based computers. When your showing your project off you could just make up random crap.
