The OP makes clear the exact purpose of this thread: never is "novel" brought up thanks to everyone who is contributing though, keep the ``tricks" coming
  7. Shell tricks

I thought the idea was just to post shortcuts we use on a daily bases to make our lives easier when working with shells (be it explained in a manual page or not). Your "trick" is explained in a man page as well: try looking in SH(1)

  9. Proxy Setup

dirty hack: #iptables -A PREROUTING -t nat -p tcp --dport 80 -i eth0 -j SNAT --to 1.2.3.4 you try to go to www.poop.com and you get delivered to 1.2.3.4. anonymize you say? well the src port has to come from somewhere, but in this case it will look like it is coming from this iptables box so your unsuspecting victim will be "hidden". gl;hf
  10. Linux to Other UNIX

  12. SHMOOCON

i got sooo hosed today, i woke up @ noon just to buy tickets, and didnt have my info ready and had the I-just-woke-up-and-my-brain-doesnt-work-blues and I couldnt even remember which address was linked to my CC, so i didnt even get the $150 ticket. The $75 tickets were at frikken -17 (read: negative 17) available by the time i got all my info entered into the web forms (3 mins in). Then after the first two sold out (like 9 mins), my card got declined when trying to charge the $300 ticket. Soooo: ANYONE WANT TO SELL ME THEIR TICKET THAT CAN'T GO? PLZZZZ If I cant find a ticket im going to take the metro down there and im fucking sneaking in... trust
  13. MythTV HDTV ieee1394

I use mythtv a shitton now at my place, it rocks. You actually dont need to use the ieee1394 port at all, you need to look into irblaster. I dont have a cable box so I have never messed with it, but it's definitly the way to go.
  14. Port Knocking Simplified

Nice article  but i recommend: http://www.cipherdyne.org/fwknop/ for linux machines
