  1. Extradition's a bitch, ain't it?
  2. HOAX! (Link to follow) EDIT: As promised: http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000317047049/
  3. Try booting into Safe Mode. Also, run some spyware apps on your computer to make sure there's no spyware processes that may be using that file. EDIT: I honestly did not see Sub Sonix's reply. WTF?
  4. I have Nextel with one of the free incoming calls plans, and it's been decent for me. My cell phone bill is outrageous though, but I mainly got it so I could communicate with my father through the direct connect. But now, even that's getting old, and I'm switching to Cingular in September. Mainly because they have free in-network calling, and that's what my fiancee uses, who I talk to the most via my cell. Meh.
  5. Some of the best programs for tackling your problem: 1) Lavasoft's AdAware SE Personal; 2) Spybot Search & Destroy; 3) CW Shredder and Hijack This!
  6. I'm intrigued. What happened, if you don't mind me asking?
  7. LOL
  8. This past weekend I took a trip with my trusty PowerBook through the heart of our Nation's Capital. Here are the results. DUN DUN DUN! P.S. And yeah, can you tell I started off in the ghetto? # $Creator: KisMAC NS export version 0.2 # $Format: wi-scan with extensions # Latitude Longitude ( SSID ) Type ( BSSID ) Time (GMT) [ SNR Sig Noise ] # 9. Anyone else think of Michael Bolton beating the shit out of the printer in Office Space?
  10. Very, very interesting. I was driving southbound on 395, and once I crested the hill past the Pentagon, where the Navy and Marine Corps Headquarters are located, my shit started going off IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. While I was doing 60. With my internal card. With bad reception (my laptop was in my passenger seat). I don't plan on accessing anything - I just want to do this for statistical and research purposes. I plan on comparing the data I find to publicly-available lists of free WAPs (advertised as such), paid public WAPs, and then see all the private WAPs. So essentially, I'd like to create four maps: Free WAPs, Paid WAPs, Private WAPs, and the whole shebang. I would like to run some tests on whether or not half the SSIDs that pop up that are WEP protected could be accessed by using the SSID as the password, but I'm really not into doing anything illegal, especially around here. Scanning is perfectly fine, though (how else am I supposed to see if there's a free hotspot located around me?) In related news, KisMAC is the shit for all you Apple owners out there.
  11. That is such a sweet site, nenn.
  12. Hahahahah! WTF?
  13. Yeah, it looks like I'm going to have to get a serial/USB conversion cable. The bastards at Garmin are selling one for $60! They must be crazy. :glare:
  14. The only reason I wanted Streets and Trips was because I could get it for cheaper, but the Garmin eTrex looks pretty cool, and it can also be used as a standalone GPS receiver, which is a plus. Does it come with all the cables and such to hook it up, or is that something extra I'll have to buy? EDIT: I'm looking pretty hard at this.
  15. Which brings me to my next project - buying shit I don't have the money for right now. Here's the plan. I want to get (in this order): 1) A good power inverter (TehBizz linked me to this one, but I'm wondering if I really need that much power for my PowerBook G4). I definitely want to be able to USE my laptop - not just charge it. Any suggestions? 2) Microsoft Streets and Trips 2005 with included USB GPS Locator. I found a "hack" to get it to work with my PowerBook here. If anyone else knows of a cheaper GPS solution that runs on Mac OS X 10.4, please chime in and hook a brother up. Hell, if you have any of this equipment to donate, don't be shy! 3) Orinoco Gold 802.11b/g (or simply 802.11b for cost-effectiveness) with an external antenna. I found a package deal (802.11b/g, 1.5 m corded 7 dBi antenna) for about $100 on eBay, but I know there has to be a better deal out there somewhere. Lastly, I'd like to get some sort of car mount for my laptop, so I could more easily glance over and check shit out. That's definitely last on my list, however. First things first, I need to find my AC adapter for my camcorder, and rig up some sort of dash-mount for it. Why? My plan is to map out hotspot locations throughout the entire city of D.C., with GPS coordinates, while simultaneously filming a documentary about D.C. tech culture for HackTV. I'd like to stop in different establishments, talk to various people I see on the street, do a little geocaching, a little UE, and capture it all on tape. Plus, I'm sure by the time the project gets finished there will have been plenty of time for some great outtakes and some great cop footage (My area's good for some sort of major event at least once every two weeks). I'm not going to be able to start for at least a few months , but this will give me the rest of summer to save up some cash so I can throw some funds into it. I'll end up buying the equipment and getting it all set up over the rest of summer, then I want to have at least $500 I can throw into just gas. This way I can take care of it during the fall, before it gets too cold and less people are on the streets (and thus, less entertainment). I know wardriving videos have been made before, but I hope you can see where this is going to differ. Anyhow, let me know what you think of this - it'd be a long time shooting and producing, but I think it'll be totally worth it in the end. I'd eventually want to create a website with interactive wifi maps, scan lists, links to the video, etc., etc. Sweet.
  16. I do believe the influx of new members has to do with A) podcasting, and Phreak Phactor. Hell, I found this place after dabbling with podcasting a couple months ago myself.
  17. I sent Stank an e-mail with the following changes, so once he has time to upload them, things will start to tighten up considerably: 1) Shortened the length of the banner image 2) Made the "Closed" button a nice shade of grey 3) Fixed those CODE and QUOTE headers (I hope they turn out right, as I have no way of testing them until they're live) 4) A few other odds and ends
  18. If you have any comments or anything about the new skin, please direct them here, that way the board won't get clogged up with duplicate posts and such. Thanks for the props and bug reports!
  19. Fixed, but not yet imported (that's Stank's bag). We were playing around with having "The Revoution Will Be Digitized" to the right of it, but since scrapped that idea, and I simply forgot to get rid of the extra space. It may actually stay that way, as the closed topic button needs to different than the rest, but I do see what you're saying. Perhaps a dark grey faded to black might be better? We'll see.
  20. Thanks for all the comments so far - I've had a lot of fun working on this, and I'd like to thank Stank and the DDP for putting their faith in me. As far as the nitty gritty, there's definitely some bugs that have appeared now that it's live. There were just some things we couldn't have foreseen during the development stage. For now, I'll liken this skin to a live beta; it serves it's purpose, but there's still some work to do. Hopefully, most of what's left will be transparent changes, although we're prioritizing some of the more unusual problems and eye-sores (i.e. the quote and code headers didn't turn out quite like expected, etc.) After the big fish have been fried, we're going to start working on some of the more trivial issues, such as converting the emoticons to match better with the darker background, and adding new pips (currently nuclear symbols) and buttons. Stay tuned for updates, and thanks again!
  21. CATSEX!
  22. Yeah - they all end up getting owned one way or another. Plus, the whole stigma of being "Hacker Safe" pisses me off. Even STILL, there's always the possibility of an insider threat. Watch one disgruntled employee fuck with something, and all of a sudden, "We've been hacked!" Fuck THAT. It's all just a way for ScanAlert to make money.
  23. Are you writing that in Notepad with word wrap on? It'd be nice if you could use a program that restricts the amount of characters per line, say, to 80. It was kind of annoying to have to scroll horizontally while reading. That's my only real criticism. Seems like a pretty solid 'zine you got going there - please keep it up! Although, what's with the zit thing? Thanks for the shouts, by the way.
  24. As we all know, the amount of storage on your web-based e-mail is directly proportionate to the size of your penis. Ergo, Gmail's popularity.
  25. Shit, do it fucking NOW. My certification course was hard enough, given the content and my schedule. Granted, I worked a little more than most, but still, having a full-time job and going to school (wherever it may be) SUCKS. But, that sounds like what you may have to do.
