  2. LOL what if i am quite a bit over 30 can you tell me what their original name was ?
  3. Are there any tampa or surrounding area meets. im new to this coast and would like to attend
  4. i was away for quite some time, but been back now and i dont post alot , but i read alot of the posts here regularly, whether logged in or not.
  5. I have a broken screen on a toshiba laptop i acquired. The system runs fine after checking it on an external monitor. I have two different HP laptops of similar age and wondered if anyone has successfully modded the screen to fit. I have never attempted this and wondered what issues i might run into. Any information or instruction would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
  6. yeah but if it was the same model as the screen before the backlight power supply board should have the same socket, least every laptop screen ive seen has sockets, id just be unscrew un plug old one plug in new one and screw it back together yeah i was trying to do an HP screen with a toshiba unit, once i pulled it all out it seems that it would have proven to be much more trouble than its worth.
  7. i found that the power lines will be quite a pain to replace, esp for someone who isnt great at soldering
  8. All i can say is that hacking isnt about destroying, its about creating. If you ask how to do something without putting an ounce of effort into it, other than asking, then you will probably be the next poster boy in line to be thrown into jail and give the entire community even worse publicity.
  9. Thanks for the info, i have looked up each of the laptops i have for parts besides the toshiba and found that it would be trivial to do this with something other than a toshiba. They seem to make the proprietary changes that you mentioned. I dont wanna harm the circuitry of the laptop o wanna use so im gonna do as you suggested and use it as a desktop for now. I have decided however to make this an onboard pc for my vehicle once i have the money to get the small monitor and wiring harnesses ill need. Thanks for the reply.
  10. i dont have android so this might not be correct, but i would assume if the card can be put inot the phone and the phone connected and have the drive come up as a removeable drive on the disk mgr, then you should be able to format it.
  11. wow might not be such a tinfoil hat site
  12. anyone have a good list of some less published fleas like this one ?
  13. i agree that is quite scary, and now google is trying to get the medical records thing going again i dont want google to have my medical records, or any of my info for that matter.
  14. i dont think ive ever heard a better response to this question than what phr34kc0der said. Thats just the way it goes. If your curious about something, do searches on it and read, then search what you dont understand in that. Hacking isnt about disrupting other people's hard work. Its about making things better and providing services and answers, not taking them away. Keep reading until you become enlightened, otherwise your just gonna be another media exploit that ends up in jail.
  15. Like systems_glitch and tekio advised there are many types of areas. You might not necessarily know what are you want just by knowing what game you want to hack or whatever. Basicly hacking means understanding and modifying to suit your needs. It doesnt mean breaking security or any of what the media portrays. I learned by taking one item that i wanted to know about and then i did a search and read every bit of material i could find about it. In those readings i found thiungs i wasnt too familiar with so i looked up those topics and read everything i could on them and so on and so on. Eventually i started to put the whole picture together and developed theories and tried to prove them. I think anyone here can attest that after a while everyone comes to a certain point where things just start to fall into place and you can analyze on your own without guidance, from there you just need to follow your interests. There really isnt like a set path to take, everyone finds their own paths based on their needs/curiosity.
  16. i havent messed with it at all but i would assume a windows map drive directive would help in this fashion and im sure a little bash script for auto mounting could be made relatively easily
  17. I just built a new system and used an ssd drive instead and its absolutely amazing. Using win7 ultimate for now and i boot in 5 seconds complete, no lie.
  18. I have read quite a few articles about this and i guess what is epected is a ddos attack. I also read that not all so called members , which supposedly there are none, will participate or condone this action. I dont know whether i would consider an attack the appropriate action, but i can understand that normal protest methods can just be passed off as "oh how cute, theres a protest" so more drastic approaches are sought. The big question is will this change anything for the time it is down? Doing it just to do it as opposed to trying to make a statement and having the statement heard and understood.
  19. painting my house

  20. You can use backtrack for security and pentesting, the version 4 final is what i chose to install. So far i have found very few pieces of software that do not install properly and it detected all my hardware out of the box. Its liughtweight enough to run an older system or you can also get the older version of it. Here is a link check it out. As for QEmu, im not sure i have never tried it. I know there are publicly available vms for vmware that you can setup and test stuff on but i have not started messing with vmware until recently, i still tend to use the other systems in my network and just run a live cd on them to test.
  21. Yeah, they are cabs and upated cabs/files. You can find out for sure by opening a windows explorer window and going to tools and then folder options and then view and deselect the hide known extensions bullet and then all extensions will display. Since they are at the root of your c: drive they were probably updates that got installed already, but look them up to be safe. Windows crashes easily if it doesnt have the files it wants.
  22. It sounds like what you want is to create a local domain controlled by a server. Im assuming all your neighbor's systems run windows ? If they are, then you could always connect them to windows server and manage them from the console of the server. You would want to setup the win server to be a domain controller and allow domain connections over VPN, (unless your neighbors can share a wireless lan) From there you can use many different options and software to manage the whole network, check cpu, monitor registry, rdp their consoles, install software and updates, etc. Theres even Operation center for windows that does a nice job if configured well. Im sure there are plenty of other methods, but i have personally used these items and they do what you are asking and dont take very long to setup if you are only using them on a dozen computers or so. The client vpn access can be easily made persistent and set at startup so that they will always be connected through to the domain. If you run small business server for the server there is even a built in help session manager that you can do remote tech support with them. It takes a little messing with to get it to work properly but after that it worked well for the businesses i handled. Not sure if this is what you wanted but it is one solution.
  23. If you want just a connectivity test then you can get a fox and hound tester that will run around $30 or $40. If you need the speed test then you will definately pay much more, but there are also software packages like this one : http://www.passmark.com/products/pt_advnet.htm that you install throughout the network to check the speed, that is if you dont need to show a receipt printout to someone before the job is done. I used to use a similar piece of software to find latency between switches, the name evades me right now but i think i have a copy of it on one of my backup drives. Or just do a search for network cable speedtest software. You can connect all the cables to a gigabit switch from different boxes and check the result from each box to get pretty accurate results. If i find the software i used to use i will post it for you. Also are you making a patch panel that goes to wall jacks or just patch cables to connect to switches and computers. I have quite a good deal of experience with cable making and testing. I was wondering why you bought the cat6 instead of cat5e, they both do gigabit and the 5e is cheaper and usually fits the jacks and termination ends better. The diff is that you need two pairs for 10/100 and three pairs for gigabit. They use the same crimp tool, i like the ratcheting ones myself and just bought a new one tonight as a matter of fact. Just remember to use the same pattern on both jacks, a or b dont switch them. Also instead of using the straight through method, (ie. orange/white, orange, green/white, green, bluew/white, blue, brown/white, brown) use the patch cable pattern (also called standard by most) (orange/white, orange, green/white, blue, blue/white, green, brown/white, brown) I ,for some unknown reason to me, have seen better results in speed and connectivity testing from the latter of the patterns. I can only assume it has something to do with the twisting, the more twists the better.
  24. I have 7 old Direct TV "H" cards in perfect condition with the programmable chips. I have no use for them and just acquired them along my travels. I was just wondering if anyone out there would like them or could use them. If you are interested in these just send me a message. All i expect is to have the postage paid for.
  25. I like Christmas for the spirit, not the gifts. I am going to spend Christmas with my mother for the first time in over 10 yhears this year. That is all the present i need or could ever want. This year is a full force change of a new chapter in my life as well. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year. I hope this one is all that you want it to be.
