that was a very cool thing to learn though - using the fingers that is!

Uhm... it is fast... but probably would not recommend during business hours. But 110 volts is doable... long as one doesn't hit their head on something falling down.

Ehh it was never anything that jolting to me -- I was also an admin of a very large modem bank (over 60) and it seemed like somehow when I hit those it was a bit more of a "shocker" than the normal pbx handsets.. Then again it may have been the vicodin.....

  2. Just got back from a dinner date with a cute Juniper Tech gal. I acted like I didn't know about computers @ first.. Hb explaining juniper stuff: ... It uses the FreeBSD kernel. Me: kernel, WTF? Hb: the heart of a computer o/s Me: is bsd s monolithic or m.k. architecture? Hb: micro kernel Me: bullshit Hb: *smiles at me* wanna get drinks after? Me: ok, but just don't hit on me. Police are funny: they go Rodney King and shoot people. Then say, "if they aren't guilty of something, wouldn't run from us".

I'll also add, the Mafia is simpler. You just pay them for "protection". No racial bias, etc... At least with the Mafia one knows what's expected of them. LoL

I grew up in Seattle. I had a cop pul their knight-stick on me for jay-walking once. I crossed the street, then she pointed at me, then pointed to go back. I winked at her, and she grabbed her battan. I was hoping for handcuffs. but hey....

  4. Major Windows update and minor Android update in once night. Maybe I'll try hitting for the cycle and install the latest 4.X kernel on my Ubuntu Server Box.

I can actually develop apps and put them on a device without the blessing of Apple iGastapo.

Seems to use MUCH less resources than iOS

      More apps available

THere are actually apps on Google Play that allow me to sniff network traffic, WiFi stumblers, LAN Enumeration apps.

Most books are cheaper off google play than iBooks

IMO, Android gives the user more options to extend the "user experience". I can change how it navigates, use cu...

So good! I'll forever wonder why such a show was cancelled. Wait until you finish the whole season before watching Serenity by the way.

Yes, indeed! I think this has surpassed Supernatural as my favorite show. Just ordered Serenity on DVD. So excited to get it! :)

Joss Whedon has done some really great stuff over the years. If you ever get a chance to go to Comic Con, legend has it that he mingles with the fans randomly throughout the event, talking to them about Scifi, the things they like, the things they'd like to see done in the future, etc.

Packers are now slouch either. Not sure if Seattle could pull off a late-season playoff win at lambeau field. Their defense is just gonna get better if peppers and mathews stay healthy all year.

      dinscurge

maybe :P what about dem site breaches like the hosting for linux mint, ubuntu forums. i mean  anything affiliated with a company in the us probably not free from possible gov inquiries same as google and who ever else. soo.. probably more obscure stuff where less of a target for hacks and stuff on a userbase basis, or a roll your own

    2. tekio

      tekio

Dins, no offense, but I see your tech level at about a script-kiddie with potential. Nothing you post has earned tons of respect from me. Sorry - but honesty presents the best outcome at times. :-)

    3. dinscurge

      dinscurge

      wat?

was saying the distro of choice makes a difference, being say cononical had that spyware thing where they gave information to amazon, or linux mint had their servers compromised, and had the iso replaced with one which had been modified.

would probably lean towards more strictly community based, or a roll your own(lfs), but mainly researching the distro in question, the default configuration(s) they are not at all created equally, assuming one wanted to be certain it was spyware free/secure.

Probably on waybackmachine or another archive. BinRev had a pretty awesome guy doing graphics early 2000ish. He had kind of a techno/grunge style. He is probably making bank now, however... VERY talented person.

  12. Imagine if the Internet regressed back to 24.4, 33.6, or  56K for 24 hours?  Will never happen, but made the start up sound on meh Windows to a 56K modem connecting. The memories. :-)

    1. kc9pke

      kc9pke

Frontier's just as bad. 4 DSLAMs in a city of 36k and 45 Mbit/s in backhaul to each one of them, haven't been upgraded since Verizon's wireline glory days. Don't have to worry much about that since Comcast quietly launched gigabit DOCSIS here :D

    2. tekio

      tekio

I pretty much have a choice between Clink and Comcast. Clink is 1.5Mbs and limited because I am right at 5 1/2 Kilometers from the C/O. Had to have Clink set my speed at the C/O to about 850kbs,  stopping the modem from retraining every 45 minutes.

Which really sucked on anything streaming or needing longer than 45 minutes to download. Also, didn't like the fact I had to tell the techs exactly what to do, "trust me, reseting my modem will not work. Let's set my link down until it needs stops retraining the modem, I am too far for 1.5Mbs.".

    3. kc9pke

      kc9pke

Have you tried service with Comcast? Out here they have a cable node hanging off a pole damn never every other block, so you're always close to the point where copper connections get muxed onto the fiber network. Internet is unironically great, customer service not so much

I've got a plan! I'm gonna make sure the Mormons show up at the same time... Then see who takes the first sucker punch when I tell 'em, "I'll join whoever wins in a fist fight!".

  14. Two most annoying features ever: 1) window auto snap - I hate it when the cmd console snaps to the far left! 2)sticky keys! I must be the only one that sometimes leaves the shift key depressed while contimplating the best way to write a line of code. Annoying!

    1. dinscurge

      dinscurge

2? just press shift 5 times, click the link then click the checkbox thats allready marked something like 'turn sticky keys on when you press shift 5 times' then never see pop up again ;)

    2. dinscurge

      dinscurge

the auto snap is in control panel>ease of access>change how mouse works(or something like that) then there's a check box for prevent windows from being aut arranged when dragged

  15. "reverse engineering" the authenication process of Apple Airport Extreme's. They should not have SNMP emables with a cs of "public" by default!

    1. tekio

      tekio

Looks like each Airport Utility has a public key stored in the software. Also looking like they use SNMP for configuration changes.

Wonder if these OID's can be accessed via port 161 with a default community string of "public'. :)

Making a perl app to bruteforce non-standard OID's to see what I can get! :)

    2. tekio

      tekio

Also, I cannot believe how many airport SOHO routers are in use! Using scanrand aimed at port 5009, then sending a 128-byte message to the port will reveal if it's an airport. They respond with an encrypted message, BUT each message is started and ended in clear text with:

      app: start message

      END| to end the message.

  24. If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port, And the bus is interrupted as a very last resort, And the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort, Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report! If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash, And the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash, And your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash, Then your situation's hopeless, and your system's gonna crash! You can't say this? ...
